Interns in Action! Emily!
“Hi everyone! My name is Emily and I’m interning for Voyageur North Canoe Outfitters in downtown Ely. We are a full-service outfitter, tackle, and bait shop that specializes in Boundary Waters and Quetico canoe trips. When I first started my internship in late May, my daily tasks consisted of prepping gear and food packs for trips, then unpacking the returned packs after the trip and checking the condition of the gear and marking the items off on the pack inventory list specific to the group. This picture shows me holding a groups food inventory and quantities sheet after packing two food packs. Once a group arrives for their trip we go over routes, entry points, portage terrain, campsite and water accessibility and the practice of Leave No Trace (LNT). A TON of work goes into outfitting for backcountry trips like these, especially if you're packing for a group of 20 or more! I went on a tent hanging and washing stint for about a week in June when we were really busy, as a result of this I learned how to tie a half hitch knot with a bite and got a really good tan! The most rewarding part of this internship was meeting people from around the country and hearing their stories from past excursions and becoming more familiar with the Boundary Waters, wildlife and fishing!"
Keep up the great work Emily!
