Visual & Graphic Communications at Hinds Career Center in Elwood, Indiana is a 1 or 2 year program that teaches students graphic design, digital photography, Flash animation, screen printing, as well as many other things while using the Adobe Creative Suite. Adobe Illustrator is the Photoshop of vector art, also known as resolution-independent graphics. Illustrator is typically used to create logo

s and graphics for business cards, infographics, clipart, and icons. Adobe InDesign does page layouts. It allows you to produce and preview documents for magazines, both in print and online across mobile and desktop platforms. Ideally projects rendered are newspapers, posters, and other marketing material. The way InDesign works allows content producers to easily piece together the layouts for multipage magazines and documents. InDesign operates seamlessly with the rest of the Adobe suite, to enhance creative ability. Adobe Photoshop is the go-to image editing and manipulation software used by almost everyone in the industry. Photoshop excels in working with raster (bitmap) graphics and is capable of producing highly detailed compositions. While originally intended to be a photo manipulation program, Photoshop has been taken up by digital painters and design professionals in both the classroom and workplace. Adobe Flash is a multimedia and software platform used for creating vector graphics, animation, games and rich Internet applications (RIAs) that can be viewed, played and executed in Adobe Flash Player. Flash is frequently used to serve streaming media, advertisement and interactive multimedia content on web pages and Flash-enabled software. It allows bidirectional streaming of audio and video, and it can capture mouse, keyboard, microphone and camera input.

I would just like to say thank you for all the love and support from the community for my students! Thank you for all of the donations that helped them get to have this experience! They spent the week in Atlanta for nationals at SkillsUSA National Conference! I am proud of all the work you put into getting there. I’m so glad you guys had a great time. Way to represent VGC and Hinds Career Center!

SUPER PROUD TEACHER MOMENT!!!!

Today all 6 of my second year students competed in various events at the State Level Skills Conference with SkillsUSA. I am very proud of them for even competing! We have been working on various projects and ideas with SkillsUSA all year. I am also even more proud (and definitely a bit sad) of them for doing it without me. I have been out for a couple weeks on maternity leave. They were able to prepare themselves and go through with it on their own (as well as the help of our awesome sub and other staff at Hinds!) and show their skills!

I am so beyond proud and happy to share that Jayce and Gabe also won their competition and have qualified for nationals! Congratulations!!
