Early voting is already underway in Arizona for the primaries!
That being said, you may still be considering who and why you will vote for. This is an important decision using your voice and your vote to showcase who you wish to represent your community in office.
As a candidate, I have noted 3 things I have wished to focus on:
- More for the youth and families
- Accessibility around Eloy
- More for small businesses
As I have listened to concerns around Eloy, there are things such as environmental concerns, potential data centers, employment, housing, roadways, and who is being considered and impacted with the decisions.
I want to say, I hear you and I share similar concerns. We must take into consideration the history and future of Eloy as decisions are made. We have families who have lived, worked, received an education, and continue to choose to make Eloy their home, but they are being priced out of homeownership opportunities. We have several small businesses who are struggle to keep their doors open and sadly new businesses who are coming and going faster than we can keep track.
So what do we do? There isn't a magic button sadly we can push, but we have something better - each other. Our community is resilient and full of people who are eager for change! For many, it's knowing where to start and learning to overcome hardship and failure without feeling like all hope is lost. In order to move forward, we have to be willing to accept potential roadblocks and be creative in our problem solving.
There are a number of grants our community can apply for to bring in funds, some take years and several rounds of rejection before approved. Looking at average costs in housing, both renters and homeowners in creating equitable opportunities for more people to attain homeownership. It is looking for partners who are willing to address what environmental impacts and long term employment opportunities they can provide to our community. Some of this may be resolved quickly, others will take time. Our city is behind on several surveys making roadways harder to get funding to repair and our mayor is currently tackling this issue head on.
Each member of city council brings their unique life experience and perspective to the table. Having a wider range of voices in that representation is important to ensure we are including as many people in the decision making process.
If you haven't cast your vote yet, please consider the statement above in your decision. This is my first time running for public office and I intended to do my best in serving the people of Eloy. Eloy is home and I understand how hard and important it is to take care of our home!
