Hello all,
This is more of a serious post, but it seems necessary. Elon APSA Exec has decided to release a statement in regards to recent events on campus. It's been a rough week for members of the Elon community, and the organization wants to stand with those affected.

A Statement from The Asian-Pacific Student Association at Elon University Executive Team:
Because of the recent events that have happened on campus and in the nation that have deeply affected the Black community, we have decided that we can no longer stay silent.
The United States recognizes May as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. It’s a time for the Asian community to celebrate our cultures and a time to recognize the progress that has been made for us. Throughout the course of American history, Asian people have experienced racial violence, oppression, exclusion, and marginalization, both domestically and internationally. During the civil rights movement, Black Americans fought for the rights of all racial minority groups, including Asians/Asian-Americans. As Asian and Pacific Islander students at Elon, we have to recognize that we would not be where we are today without the work of Black American civil rights activists and the support of the Black community.
This past week has marked the 25th anniversary of the 1992 LA Race Riots, a point in American history where tensions between Black and Asian communities were high. Although these tensions definitely still exist to some extent, we want there to be reconciliation between us. If communities of color want to progress, then we need to stand in unity.
The Asian-Pacific Student Association at Elon University stands in solidarity with the Black community at Elon. We will work to create an inclusive campus space for our Black and African-American peers and continue to fight for justice for their community. We are here to support you when you feel alone, hurt, or threatened on campus. And we are here to celebrate and laugh with you in times of joy.
You are not invisible. You are not in this alone. You are valued on this campus. Your lives matter.
Signed,
The Asian-Pacific Student Association 2016-2017 Executive Team
