Based on students’ responses to the survey question, “How do you rate your college’s theater productions?”, Elon University has been ranked #1 in The Princeton Review’s “Best College Theater” category! 🎭

The Department of Performing Arts presents multiple productions each year, bringing together the talents of students, staff, faculty, collaborators from across the university, and guest artists. Our programs in Acting, Arts Administration, Dance Performance & Choreography, Dance Science, Drama & Theatre Studies, Music Theatre, and Theatrical Design & Technology each contribute to the vibrant productions that make our community so special.

Congratulations to the incredible team of students, staff, faculty, collaborators, and guests who make our productions possible and our season memorable. We’re proud to celebrate this recognition with you! 🎉

Senior Spotlight featuring Averly Burns 💃🏼

Averly is a major in Dance Science, with minors in Dance & Psychology. Here are some thoughts she wants to share as she reflects on her time at Elon. Congratulations Averly!

Favorite Elon Memory: Studying abroad! I can’t pick just one experience abroad, so all of them.

Favorite Dance Experience: Choreographing Balaga in Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 with Jacob Brent!

Advice You’d Give to a First-Year: Try everything, even if it scares you! You don’t have to be good at something to try it out, and you might just meet some of the coolest people here.

What’s Next: Graduate school at Rider University for Clinical Mental Health Counseling: Specialization in Dance/Movement Therapy.

Senior Spotlight featuring Natalie Dixon 🕺

Natalie is a double major in Dance Performance and Choreography & Dance Science. Here are some thoughts she wants to share as she reflects on her time at Elon. Congratulations Natalie!

Favorite Elon Memory: My favorite Elon memory was getting to work with my class to create our senior thesis concert, REVEAL. It was cool to see how we’ve all grown throughout the past four years as both dancers and choreographers.

Favorite Dance Experience: My most memorable dance experience at Elon was our Composition II and III showings. I loved getting to create my own piece and getting to see what all of my friends had created.

Advice You’d Give to a First-Year: Be open to trying new things and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

What’s Next: Getting my prerequisites and shadow hours completed and applying for PT schools.

Senior Spotlight featuring Evelyn Ealey 🫶🏽

Evelyn is a double major in Dance Performance and Choreography & Strategic Communications. Here are some thoughts she wants to share as she reflects on her time at Elon. Congratulations Evelyn!

Favorite Elon Memory: My favorite Elon memory was our class’s annual Secret Santa holiday party. It was always right after classes ended, and getting to be together, and be festive before we go home was always so fun. Each year we got our Secret Santa a Jellycat stuffed animal, and it was always so sweet seeing how well we know each other!

Favorite Dance Experience: The most memorable dance experience I’ve had at Elon was presenting my Honors Thesis Research performance, Rhythms of Resilience this past February. I learned so much about myself and built powerful connections that will last a lifetime. This project taught me much more than how to conduct research, it gave me a way to shed light on Black student mental health and share my findings with broader audiences. Honoring each unique mental health experience, using choreography to portray adversities with mental health, and showcasing the legacy being built for future students at PWIs was so incredibly fulfilling.

Advice You’d Give to a First-Year: Never underestimate what you are capable of. Four years is a long time and you might just surprise yourself with how much you grow, and all you can do!

What’s Next: Over the summer I’ll be finishing my work as the Academic Publishing Intern for the Journal of Dance Education and the National Dance Education Organization. I will also continue to audition for professional dance jobs, and seek full-time employment at performing arts companies in communications, public relations, and marketing.

Senior Spotlight featuring Aleah Newman 🦖🫶🏽

Aleah is a major in Dance Performance and Choreography, with minors in Psychology & Expressive Arts. Here are some thoughts she wants to share as she reflects on her time at Elon. Congratulations Aleah!

Favorite Elon Memory: One of my favorite memories is when my class and I got together before winter break every year for our holiday party, where we’d eat cookies and do Secret Santa. It was such a fun time for us to relax before the holidays.

Favorite Dance Experience: My favorite memories are from REVEAL, our senior thesis show, because I got to choreograph with all my best friends, spend time with them throughout the rehearsal process, and create something we’d been working towards for the past three years.

Advice You’d Give to a First-Year: Don’t let fear and shyness get in the way of making some of your best friends sooner.

What’s Next: I’ll be taking at least a year to work for the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA) as a Program Leader and companion for children and adults with special needs, as well as taking classes at Aerial Dance Chicago for Silks and Lyra.
