Three longtime members of the Elon community received the university's highest service honor, the Elon Medallion, during the Opening Day ceremony.

Jim Donathan, longtime associate director of academic advising and academic support; Mary Thornton, founder and president of Harvest Table Culinary Group; and Don Grady, associate professor emeritus of cinema and television arts, heard from former mentors, friends and colleagues before being bestowed the honor by Elon President Connie Ledoux Book.

“An advocate is one who finds the things that need doing and gets them done,” said AK Krauss, paraphrasing a local partner at Family Service of the Piedmont. “Advocacy is so individual and specific to different folks.” Supporting others through challenging experiences requires empathy, compassion and resilience. Congratulations to Carla Fullwood, director of inclusive excellence education and development, who has been named one of the Triad Business Journal's "Leaders in Diversity."

At Elon, Fullwood leads initiatives on inclusive excellence and is a certified coach. She is a contributor to the Carolinas chapter of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education and has been a featured speaker and guest on multiple platforms focused on inclusive pedagogy and student experiences.
