Who would have ever guessed that all these things are a result of PR? The one you may be most surprised by is the American breakfast staple, bacon and eggs!

In 1925, the Beech-Nut Packaging Company hired Edward Bernays (the godfather of PR) to help sell more bacon.. Bernays discovered that most Americans only had a piece of toast and juice for breakfast. He asked his physician if Americans could benefit from a heartier breakfast and when his physician said yes, Bernays asked him to write to 5,000 of his colleagues asking if they agreed. 4,500 responded yes. This information was published in major newspapers all across the US, with headlines proclaiming the need for a more substantial breakfast, while others stated that bacon and eggs should be a central part of any breakfast.

Bernay's "Hearty American Breakfast" campaign is a great example of good PR! The more you know!

It includes a message sender and a message receiver and adds feedback. Another way to think about two-way communication is....
