For two weeks, students explored the nature of light through experiments in optics and astronomy examining spectra, polarization, reflection, refraction, and the light of the Sun and stars with Professor Moreau. They also learned to observe like poets, transforming scientific discoveries into creative expression. What a great experience at the 2026 Elon Phoenix Summer Camp! Check out their work at the link below!

Cayden is working at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) as a part of their REU program. She is looking for masers, which are like lasers but in the microwave/radio part of the spectrum, in a local galaxy.

What are you up to this summer?

New paper from Dr. Evans in Spintronics; it's about wearable magnetic sensors. The sensors are ultra-thin (a few microns) so they conform to human skin and other flexible surfaces, and they sense magnetic fields. They might be used in robotics, to give soft magnetic robots a sense of proprioception โ€” i.e. understanding their own configuration as they move. https://www.nature.com/articles/s44306-026-00149-9
