Mission alert! John Mills Elementary School’s Open House 2026 is approaching! Drop by Thursday, Sept. 10, to explore Starbase Mills between 5:30 and 7 p.m.

Parents and guardians, your mission is to meet our amazing faculty and discover the places where your children grow and learn every day.

Students, as you travel throughout John Mills with your family members, your objective is to collect mission patches for every destination you visit. How many can you collect?

Join Principal Matt Lerner and Assistant Principal Stephanie Hagins on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 5:30 p.m. for Elmwood Elementary’s Open House! During the event, you'll be able to:

We’d like to welcome one more faculty member to Elmwood Elementary School: Luciano Martino, the Panthers’ newest 1st grade teacher! Mr. Martino is no stranger to either Elmwood Park or District 401. As a student, he attended Elmwood Elementary (3rd-6th grades) and Elm Middle (7th-8th grades), before spending a year at IC Catholic Prep in Elmhurst. He returned to District 401 after his freshman year, graduating from Elmwood Park High School in 2019.

During his time at EPHS, Mr. Martino became a notable presence on the football field, starting at running back and defensive end as he helped lead the Tigers to the IHSA playoffs in 2017 and 2018. In his senior season, the Tigers finished 8-3 and won their first playoff game since 1985, defeating Chicago Back of the Yards 41-18 at EPHS Stadium. In that Class 5A game, Mr. Martino rushed for 179 yards on 15 carries.

Mr. Martino graduated with honors from National Louis University earlier this year, earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. While attending college, he worked at Picket Fence Learning Center in Elmwood Park and did his student teaching at Elmwood Elementary. He’s also been coaching at EPHS, serving as an assistant coach for both football and boys track & field. Welcome (back) to Elmwood and District 401, Mr. Martino! Go Panthers! Go Tigers!

Congratulations to the EPHS varsity girls volleyball team on winning the program’s fifth consecutive Tiger Quad Meet championship! The 2026 meet took place Saturday, Aug. 29, in the EPHS main gym.

The Tigers defeated Harvard in two sets (25-22, 25-20), Round Lake in three (24-26, 26-24, 15-13) and Walther Christian in two (25-16, 25-17) to win the title. Saturday’s three victories raised the team’s season record to 3-2.

The squad is led by head coach Brittany Stanton and features seven seniors: Valentyna Bodnar, Kayla Calixto, Tessa LaRocco, Emily Mancha García, Isabel Mojica, Jailani Rodriguez and Ella Vargas.

The Tigers resume play Monday, Aug. 31, at Hoffman Estates. Their next home match will be Sept. 8 vs. Glenbard South. Go Tigers!
