Elmhurst College Sustainability & Heritage Garden

Elmhurst College Sustainability & Heritage Garden We aim to raise consciousness of "living green" practices among students, faculty and staff at Elmhurst University.

The Sustainability Advisory Committee identifies, coordinates and promotes sustainability efforts across campus that bring the institution closer to the following goals:
- Improve awareness and understanding of environmental issues
- Encourage faculty, students and staff to participate in the environmental efforts of the College
- Improve College efforts to support green, sustainable practices
- E

ducate students through programs and curriculum regarding their environmental responsibilities as responsible members of a multicultural global society
- Engage in higher education, local and national organizations involved in sustainability

On Sept. 30, staff members from the facilities department installed 4,000 square feet of plants on the College’s first green roof. The plants, a succulent groundcover called sedum, are specially designed to tolerate any kind of weather, from drought to extreme cold.
