The Mud Kitchen Just Got an Upgrade!

A huge thank you to the Thompson family - thanks to them we now have a microwave in our mud kitchen!

Our afternoon class was the very first to try it out, and they jumped right in! They immediately started finding numbers, taking turns, pushing buttons, and creating imaginative scenarios with their friends.

It’s amazing how one simple addition can inspire so much pretend play, social interaction, turn-taking, and early math learning! ✨

Playing with Leaves 🍂 🍁 🍃

Our 4s class created a curtain of falling leaves using clothespins - an invitation to explore, create, and strengthen those little fingers!

Our 3s used a hole punch to turn leaves into tiny pieces of leaf confetti, then placed them onto a hanging sticky circle to create collaborative nature inspired artwork.

Two age appropriate ways to explore the same fall material while building fine motor skills, hand strength, coordination, and creativity. 🍂✨

Exploring the Prairie Path 🌿🐞

Our fours took their annual field trip to the Prairie Path this morning! With a guided tour from our friends at the Elmhurst Park District, the children had the opportunity to slow down, explore, and connect with nature right in our own community.

They had a hands-on experience discovering native plants, looking closely at bugs and other tiny prairie residents, and noticing all the sights, sounds, and textures along the path.

Experiences like these remind us that nature is one of the best classrooms. There is so much for children to wonder about, investigate, and discover when we give them the time and space to explore✨

Word Wall✨

Today, the kids in our Pre-K class added some new words to their newly created word wall! One simple way they practice letter recognition and build early literacy skills is using an interactive word wall throughout the year, adding words that connect to what they are learning and interested in.

Right now, there’s been LOTS of interest in bugs, so after reading lots of bug books and talking about the insects they’ve been discovering, they added “praying mantis” and “cicada” to their word wall today!

My favorite day of the year - Journal day✨

All year long, our four year olds have been filling these precious journals with artwork, stories, memories, and little pieces of their preschool days. Our teachers pour so much love and care into every single page, and today was finally the big reveal.

Watching the children flip through their journals together - sharing memories, telling stories, laughing, and remembering moments from the year - is something truly special.

These journals hold so much more than art projects. They hold growth, friendships, imagination, and the magic of being little. We’re going to miss these big kids so much 🤍
