In Ms. Koehler's World History class, the sixth graders are studying the origins of civilization. Their mission: conduct a tabletop archeological dig, looking for fossils, bones, snake skins, pottery and other finds. They're learning how archeologists work with a site and what they can discover about a civilization through these finds.

And that's a wrap on the first week of school at Immanuel Lutheran! We have a building full of excited learners ready to grow, serve, and soar together. By God's grace, we'll learn together how to bring our whole heart to our work, whatever that work may be. Whether we're learning a new skill, helping a friend, listening, singing, or playing on the playground, God created us to do good work, and everything we do is ultimately for Him and for His glory.

A new school year means a new theme verse! This year's chosen Bible verse is Colossians 3:23: "Whatever you do, work at it with all of your heart, as working for the Lord and not for men"

This weekend, as we finish up our final preparations for the first day of school, let's prepare our hearts too. Principal Estes has this encouragement for all the students and families of Immanuel: "This verse will guide everything we do together. My prayer is that as an Immanuel community, we will all learn to bring our whole hearts to our work - in the classroom, on the playground, or wherever we go - knowing we're ultimately working for the Lord, not just for a grade or a gold star. I'm grateful for each of you and can't wait for all that God has in store this year. Here's to working - and playing - with all our hearts!"

We’ve expanded our administrative team this year, and these positions will benefit everyone at Immanuel. Although the job descriptions are up for review and adjustments during the year, it’s doubtful Mrs. Baerenklau, our newly appointed assistant principal, thought dumpster diving would be one of her duties.
Luckily, she realized a box of new workbooks got mixed in with a box of garbage and ended up in the dumpster!

What a fun way to start the day! This morning our campers were treated to a rare sight: a great big CRANE right there in our parking lot! It's the last week of summer camp, and we've had a wonderful summer exploring and learning all kinds of new things.

What a wonderful night celebrating our Immanuel community and friends! After a smoke-out caused us to reschedule, God provided the most beautiful weather for our event on Thursday. From the tasty grilled food and all the treats provided by our friends, to the music provided by Immanuel's own talented musicians, to the games and time spent together as an Immanuel family, it was an absolutely marvelous night!

And none of it would have been possible without so many willing hands and hearts:
To those who set up and tore down, baked and grilled, donated items, welcomed new faces with open arms, and filled the evening with music — thank you!

That's how we roll at Immanuel, just the way God intended. We work together, each using their own gifts to serve one another.

Thanks to everybody for bringing that special "welcoming, friendly vibe", as people who like to be together. We're truly blessed to be a community. Special thanks to Villa Park Ace Hardware for providing the awesome grill, and to Darryl Holliday and Doug Pelt for making the music happen. At Immanuel Lutheran School, technology is a tool, not the teacher, and not the center of the classroom.

Our philosophy draws on the best of proven educational practices: hands-on, exploratory learning rooted in our Christian faith. Our students read on paper, annotate and highlight, write by hand, build design projects, and dig into real math and science labs. When screens come out, it is on purpose. Adaptive practice that helps teachers customize learning for each child, keyboarding and digital-citizenship skills, and real tools for the future, all approached through the lens of our faith.

Our textbooks are not online. Our students spend far more of the day talking with teachers and classmates than looking at a screen, because that is where curiosity, communication, character, and lasting learning actually happen.

Preparing children for the future while preserving what makes a faith-centered education timeless. That’s the heart of our intentional technology strategy at Immanuel.
