Good Morning All!
With the start of the school year approaching, I become so excited to include critical thinking in all of my art classes! How does the material change the way students think and work?

Making art is all about playing. Artists have to experiment with materials and mark-making before they find their style. Many of us can recognize a Picasso, a van Gogh, or a Frida Kahlo very quickly, but what makes those Works so recognizable? This 6 session workshop will give you the chance to play with many different techniques and materials without pressure. This is a chance to simply see what they do. Which ones look cool, and which ones are not for you. No experiences needed for this class except a wonderful curiosity and appreciation for the arts!

As we get ready for this new school year, I am constantly designing classes that incorporate critical thinking.

Artists have to experiment with materials and mark-making before they find their style.Many of us can recognize a Picasso, a van Gogh, or a Frida Kahlo very quickly, but what makes those Works so recognizable? Our daughter River absolutely LOVED her second Summer with the PALS Organization! People, I am telling you that this has been the most heartwarming, happiest experience ever for our family! These VOLUNTEERS are heroes! The leaders and peers compassionate and beyond kind. We are so lucky that this is held at Elmhurst University each year, but families drive from all of the country to experience this powerful force of inclusion!
If you have not heard about it please check it out and do whatever you can to help support what they do for so many people!

Coming soon—"Inner Worlds: Visions from the Hirschhorn Collection”

Three iconic artists—Mary Bauermeister, Yayoi Kusama, and Niki de Saint Phalle—unleash pattern, repetition, and controlled chaos in this powerful exhibition exploring experience, perception, and the connections between artists and audience. By the early 1960s, all three artists had made their way to New York, where they joined the postwar avant-garde, contributing to the emergence of the Pop art, Fluxus, Neo-Dada, and Abstract Expressionist movements. Seen together, their work attests to the strength of a generation of women artists who achieved international acclaim against great odds, forever altering the trajectory of twentieth-century art.

In our studio, still-life and landscape painting, offer students a set of skills to navigate each challenges. Paramount is drawing, meaning the ability to create composition, form, light, and shadow. This Portrait Painting class will be taught in a classical manner. Students will create studies in charcoal, pencil, and acrylic paint. This challenges each artist to use realistic drawing, anatomy, and harmonious colors to give their portrait, likeness and emotional depth.
