YOU are in control. Educate yourself. Empower yourself. Your body is yours. One of the things that makes me cringe the most is when I hear women say “my doctor won’t let me ___”. Won’t LET you? Words matter. Those are disempowering words and you don’t need to accept that. This boundary can start during pregnancy, which can help you avoid hearing statements like this ☝🏼 during labor.

I’m a midwife and MD who specializes in the health and wellness of pregnant mommas. While I’m one of the original crunchy mamas, I got the science thing down tight in my medical training at Yale, so I can keep you informed on what’s safe, what’s not, and what are the best alternatives. This ...

Deadlifts. ☠️💪🏼 Although they may sound scary, there’s nothing more basic, functional, effective and necessary to be able to do. Lift something off of the ground to standing and putting it back down. We do it every day. But, if you don’t know how to do it properly, over time it will catch up with you. Now THAT’S scary 👻 Check out this and the huge repository of amazing content at www.birthfit.com

point blank, every pregnancy journey looks different. it’s a sensitive subject for most women + with it being Pregnancy + Infant Loss Awareness month, please know my heart goes out to every woman missing their angel babies as well as those wishing, praying + hoping to become a mom. I think about you often + pray that one day you get to hold your baby. whether you get there through natural, ivf, surrogacy, adoption or beyond, you are strong, you are courageous + that baby is lucky to have you!! much love, momma. //

Today I shared what’s been going on with me over the past year+. It’s caused me to cancel classes, cancel Series (even recently) and not be as prepared and organized as I normally like to be. It’s affected everything. Thank you to everyone that’s stuck with me... now that I’m on the path to recovery, I am fully confident that 2020 is going to be THE YEAR. BIRTHFIT Milwaukee will be in full swing. So excited to feel like myself again. I’ll be sharing lots more about my journey over the past year, what CIRS is, and what I’ll be doing for healing over on my personal page so follow me there if you’re interested in learning more!

So much of social media is all smiles and perfection. For me, over the past year+ this is what I’ve *really* looked like on many days. Totally confused and unsure as to why, but feeling like absolute crap, and only getting incrementally worse. Starting out as anxiety and mild depression (something new for me), I chalked it up to postpartum. Then into full blown fatigue, which got worse and worse, chalked up to a baby that didn’t sleep. Debilitating brain fog - like, some days I would simply forget things, all the way to being completely unable to think cohesive thoughts and perform normal tasks (hello, dropping balls left and right). Then enter the sicknesses - alllllll winter and into spring. Irritability, low libido, unexplainable weight gain, headaches and skin issues were all happening, and I knew my hormones were totally off. Then, the scary dizzy spells and nausea started this summer. That was finally enough... I needed to finally get this taken care of. Thinking it was HPA Axis dysfunction & thyroid issue, I found a functional med MD that specializes in hormones. Little did I know, he also specialized in CIRS - Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome - which typically results from Lymes and/or toxic mold. Since almost 10 years of my career was spent as an environmental & wetland scientist, when he mentioned exploring this, I immediately thought Lymes was a pretty distinct possibility. I was constantly trapping around outdoors through tall grass, forests and wetlands. So we got my bl
