The American Association of University Women (AAUW) empowers women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Our nonpartisan, nonprofit organization has more than 170,000 members and supporters across the United States, as well as 1,000 local branches and 800 college and university partners. Since AAUW’s founding in 1881, our members have examined and taken positions on th

e fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political. AAUW West Suburban is located in the western suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Our organization comprises a membership of more than 150 active and involved women. We participate in activities that further AAUW goals: equity for all women and girls, lifelong education and positive societal change. Our branch members find abundant opportunities for mental stimulation, personal growth, fun and friendship through branch meetings and a variety of study and interest groups.

This week our golfing group honored a former member with a lot of times times even with the rain stoppages. Since Terri always played with a pink ball, the outing was called “Pink on the Links Fore Terri”. Everyone wore pink and each of the nine holes had a special tribute to Terri.

For nearly 60 years, workforce demographic data has helped the identify patterns of workplace discrimination, enforce federal civil rights laws, and advance equal opportunity.

Now, the EEOC has proposed eliminating this critical data collection. Without employer-level workforce data, it becomes much harder to identify barriers to pay equity, investigate discrimination, and understand where workplace inequities persist.

AAUW urges the EEOC to withdraw this proposal and preserve workforce demographic data collection.

Public comments are open through August 24. Speak out to help protect equal opportunity in the workplace.
