Mirus Academy Mirus Academy is a private Classical Christian school in Ellsworth, Maine. Love Truth. Truly Love. The faculty will seek to contribute to their respective fields.

MISSION:

Mirus Academy exists to mature students in their love of truth and their true love of others. VISION:

Mirus Academy aims to equip students to lead culture, not merely respond to it. Mirus Academy will offer the highest educational standards while simultaneously producing the greatest of humility in its students. This vision rests on the belief that the Christian worldview is a comprehensive enough philosophy to transform students into mature men and women of high intellectual and spiritual virtues. The students of Mirus Academy will develop the abstract thought necessary for both a masterful use of creative expression and rational discourse, and pursue the questions at the end of answers. The students will strive for intellectual honesty, graceful humility, and loving relationships. The faculty of Mirus Academy will seek to educate students to change the world beyond the classroom. The faculty of Mirus Academy will be master teachers dedicated to students, their craft, and most of all, the Trinitarian worldview. They will be paid competitive wages for their professional services. They will breathe life into every teaching opportunity. The faculty will seek to expose students to beauty, justice, truth and love via the curriculum and let the inherent value of these realities motivate the students to pursue true human flourishing. The faculty will challenge students to pursue true understanding and wisdom, not allowing them to settle for mere mastery of systems and forms. The faculty will be committed to the classical model of education and the academic rigors that this model prescribes. Mirus Academy will be missional in its mode of operation. It will provide an environment where students of all beliefs and backgrounds are welcomed and loved. It will serve the surrounding communities by investing in the present and future flourishing of those communities. It will serve by believing that the youth of the present age are created to push back the boundaries of disarray and chaos in both thought and deed. The Christian ethic of placing one’s self under others will be followed by the academy in its relationship to all others. VERSE:

Our Rhetoric students are reading Kristin Lavransdatter in History. We asked one of them why they are enjoying it:

"Our world is starved for good literature. In an age so consumed with deciphering reality, among the fears of human intelligence being made absolute, we should reach for works not only grounded in the richness of scripture, but also the reality of human experience. Kristin Lavaransdatter, by Sigrid Undset, (c.1920) presents its readers with a fully developed and palatable representation of human life. The story itself, following the life of a girl in the 1300s, balances the representation of sin within a Christian atmosphere and period, as well as what one’s moral response to sin should be. The detailed medieval framework, rather than causing its reader to “escape into the tale," reaches out and challenges the soul of the reader. It will force you to grapple with the christian faith and nature of the fall as it relates to the church. I highly recommend this to anyone up to the task and pray it encourages you in a pursuit of reality."

Is it worth it? We are not the ones who should answer that.

"We choose to make the financial investment to send three of our children to Mirus Academy because we believe deeply in what the school is doing. The faculty have a strong vision for the mission of the school and it is run with fidelity to that mission.

The work is hard and the expectations are high, but the reward is immense. We have watched our kids learn that they can overcome challenges and do hard things. This education will prepare them well for whatever comes next.

What we value most is that they aren’t just being taught what to learn, but rather are learning how to learn - how to think independently, how to wrestle with ideas, and how to be part of a community.

For our family, the sacrifice of private education has been worth it. We are incredibly grateful for the education our children are receiving at Mirus and would wholeheartedly recommend the school to families who value a challenging, thoughtful, classical education."
