New year, new goals! 📚 Our Kids Ferst of Gilmer County volunteers had a fantastic first meeting of 2026 at the Gilmer County Library today.

As the local team for Ferst Readers, we are so excited to keep getting books into the hands of our community's children.

We have a big year ahead and we don't want you to miss a thing! Follow us stay updated on all our 2026 reading events, including:

🍦 DQ Fundraiser: Join us on January 22 from 4 PM – 8 PM at the Ellijay Dairy Queen ! They are generously donating 10% of all proceeds from that evening to Kids Ferst.

📖 Kiwanis Read Across Georgia: We are kicking off our event season with this special week from January 26–30.

Position: Early Head Start Caregiver
Requirements:
· Must possess an infant toddler CDA or AS or BS degree in ECE birth to 5.
· Experience in working with toddlers, including those with special needs.
· Experienced driver with valid license who has access to a vehicle that can be used on the job.
· Knowledgeable of resources within the community.
· Aware of the cultural and linguistic diversity of the children and families in the community.
· Must secure an acceptable criminal records check.
· Knowledgeable of basic computer skills and predominant software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, Internet).

Job Duties Include (but not limited to):
· Provide a safe, nurturing, stimulating and secure learning environment

· Prepare lesson plans based on data collected during observations

· Monitor and record progress of children

· Maintain all required documentation

· Hold parent/teacher conferences and conduct student home visits

· Work to provide early establishment of a trusting and productive partnership with their students’ families to promote the advancement of those children and families

· Work to insure that all aspects of the program meet or exceed Head Start Performance Standards and other requirements as set forth in the funding agency regulations

· Work to insure that all aspects of the program meet or exceed all requirements set forth by the governing agency

· Follow all guidelines set forth in the Ninth District Opportunity’s Personnel Policies, Procedures Manual, and Operations Plan

· Attend training sessions as required by the agency

SAVE THE DATE!! Songs & Stories returns to the The Craddock Center on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 3:00 pm with John McCutcheon. It will be held at The Craddock Center at 186 Fred Craddock Drive, Cherry Log, GA 30522. As always, admission is free, and donations are appreciated. The money raised will go towards the purchase of new books for the 1,200 little ones we serve. Please share this post with your friends!
