Week NINE: SATURN!

We learned that Saturn is the 6th planet from the sun.

It has rings made of ice, dust, rocks, and moons.

It spins fast, but orbits the sun slowly.

It has no solid surface and gets is yellow/orange look from the gasses in the atmosphere.

It's the second-largest planet after JUPITER!

***REMINDER***
We meet on Tuesdays at 11am near Gresham Park. $2 per student.

See y'all next week to learn about URANUS!

Week SEVEN - Mars!

We learned that Mars is called the RED PLANET because the surface has a red, rocky surface made of rusted iron.

There is NO WATER on Mars, and the atmosphere is so thin, humans can't breathe the air.

We cut and colored in our paper planet Mars for our solar system mobiles.

Big kid Marko popped in to encourage everyone to draw our solar system, and he made some art with us as well! He calls it 'The Big Bang.'

Week 5: VENUS

We learned Venus is very, very, hot and the pressure is so great, humans can't survive.

It's called Earth's sister planet because they are similar in size.

The surface is very rocky and covered in volcanoes!

Earth and Venus spin in opposite directions, and Venus' days are longer than its years! 🤯

Join us next week for our home planet... EARTH!

*Tuesdays at 11am. DM for new permanent address in Ellenwood.*

Week 5, we studied MERCURY! We sorted crayons from smallest to biggest, lightest to darkest, and had the kids sort them how they wanted to as well.

We learned two songs about the planets. Here are the links:

https://youtu.be/noiwY7kQ5NQ?feature=shared

We decorated our own Mercury for our future mobiles

We learned that Mercury is the closest to the sun. It's orbiting the sun very fast, has no atmosphere (so days are extremely hot and nights are extremely cold), and there's no oxygen.

Join us next week in northern Stockbridge for a study on VENUS! We meet at 11am. DM or text for the address.

Week four's topic: the SUN! We recreated how the planets orbit around the sun with Coca as our volunteer sun again.

We cut out and decorated our own paper suns (to hang on a mobile once our planets are done at the end of the semester)!

*** IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ***
1. After much thought and consideration, Creative Science will move locations to northern Stockbridge for the rest of the semester effective immediately.

2. Because we will hold classes in the backyard of a private residence, sign up is required in order to receive the address. Please message with your name and amount of children attending for signup.

3. Because of the lack of sufficient donations (supplies/money), there's a $2 per child, per class fee to cover material costs.

As always, DM if you have any concerns or questions. I'd be happy to chat!

Week three, we covered ROCKETS AND SATELLITES! We learned about ORBITING and how satellites orbit the Earth like the Earth orbits the sun.

Coca volunteered to be our "sun" while we orbitted around her as "planets."

We learned about Yuri Gagarin, a Russian man who was the first to orbit the Earth.

We made our own rockets and learned about rocket fuel!

See everyone next week to begin learning about the sun. 🙋🏻‍♀️

Today's the day, friends! Catch up with us for Creative Science at 11am at Lake Claire Community Land Trust.

We're learning about rockets and satellites! Come ready to build and blast your own rockets.

MAGNETS! This week, we learned about magnets and MAGNETISM. We did an experiment to see what was and was not a magnet. We had lots of volunteers to help test and tape our objects.

We learned which different types of metals are MAGNETIC.

We talked about where in our homes we might find them. (Magnatiles!)

We learned that a compass has a magnet that uses the earth's magnetism to point north!

Our craft was a compass of our own.

See everyone next week on Tuesday at 11am at Lake Claire Community Land Trust!!!

Week one, done! We learned about all kinds of electricity - the kind in our homes, the kind dealing with weather, and why we get shocked sometimes. We did an experiment with balloons to learn about static electricity, and Marko was our big-kid volunteer!

See everyone next week for week 2!
