ISR Melissa Osborne

ISR Melissa Osborne ISR goes beyond traditional swimming instruction, teaching children 6 months- 6yrs self rescue techniques if they happen to reach water alone.

Infants (6 months- 12 months old) will learn to hold their breath underwater, roll onto their back and float unassisted. Children (1 year- 6 years old) will learn the following sequence: how to hold their breath underwater; swim with their head down and eyes open; roll onto their back to float, rest, and breathe; and roll back over to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool and can crawl out or be rescued by an adult.

With this lovely rainy weather probably continuing some tomorrow morning and on.. just a few reminders as the weather can change within a few minutes time.

As long as there is no lightning in my area we will still swim! (I follow the weather app closely.)
And
As long as the rain is not to heavy where I can not see the bottom of the pool we will still swim! (We will be getting wet in the pool anyway) 😁

Please plan your wardrobe accordingly if it is raining as the yard can get a little muddy.

If things change and I decide to call it, I will post here first! I try to text as soon as I can as well to the parents it will affect.

Happy rainy season 🤪🏊‍♀️🏊

Why do we celebrate face-in swimming? 🥳

Because swimming with the head lifted high above the water (otherwise known as doggy paddling 🐶) is tiring and inefficient! When the head comes up, the hips and legs tend to drop. When the hips and legs drop, the body creates more resistance. More resistance means more effort just to get to the air 😮‍💨 For children, that extra effort can quickly lead to fatigue which compromises their safety.

Learning to swim with the face in the water promotes a more streamlined body position and helps children move farther while using less energy 🤍🧘

That’s not just better swimming…it’s safer, smarter swimming. 🤗

Did you know you should test a child life vest before heading out on the boat?!? Just because it’s the correct weight for your child does not mean it’s the right one for their body and can fail even a fully skilled child.
