Learning pads is still busily working away even though I don’t often post. My tutoring roster full, and I teach two classes a week with an executive functioning friendly curriculum in literature and civics for a private school.
If you have any challenges to teaching your child or doing homework at home, don’t be afraid to ask questions and I’ll do my best to brainstorm an approach.
Learning Pads
We focus on private tutoring for public or homeschool students ages Pre-K through grade 8. Behind or at risk High School students can also receive help.
Outsourced homeschooling is also available. Finally, PERT test prep is also available (Florida).

I was asked to provide my favorite quote for a bio for Colearn today. I can’t ever share this quote enough! Over and over until it’s heard.
Each kid should know they are special and they can shine with their own special gifts!

Here at Learning Pads, all our learning sessions keep Executive Functioning in mind. We take breaks. We use various writing mediums. I scribe. We play games. We don’t do busy or copy work. I teach strategies.
While executive dysfunction is real, it doesn’t mean we can’t find ways to overcome it.

There is a reason you don’t remember what a polynomial is. Don’t teach your child to just follow the steps like we parents were taught. Make sure they understand how it all works conceptually, and you have a problem solver for life.

Don’t lose sight of the end goal.
Yes, we must learn math and reading and both are very important. But solving the quadratic equation in math is not anywhere near as important as the problem solving skill that should accompany it. Make sure your child is thinking and problem solving and understanding. Many many students learn by rote only to regurgitate that info back on to a test… and then promptly forget. Since math builds on previous math, forgetting past skills is definitely problematic!
Think. Reason. Process.

I read this today and could NOT agree more.
My goal here at Learning Pads is to hit the reset button, teach the child conceptually and give him or her the skills to think logically and critically. Back to basics everyone, and the rest will follow naturally.

“For every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned.” -Ben Franklin
Does that mean for every minute we skip, we lose time? Executive Functioning Skills matter! The ability to organize is just one of those skills.
Organizing goes beyond a messy room or a messy desk. It includes the ability to organize an answer in your mind or the steps you want to take to solve a problem. If this sounds like your child, look into executive functioning skills and better get, strategies. Learning Pads utilizes executive functioning skills strategies in every session.

Color coding works. Executive (dis-)function is a common issue for kids with ADHD. Following lists or managing assignments are not necessarily natural skills for all.
Was delighted to see my son organizing himself and his due dates by what? Color coding!!!
How else can you use color coding?
-organize work by class
- separate types of work i.e reading, written work
-break up multi part questions. For example, if your curriculum asks for two answers in a single question, highlight each question in a different color, then add a corresponding colored dot in the answer section.
The ability to multitask is one of those tough executive functioning categories a lot of kids struggle with
