Every dollar donated through to the English scholarship for Access & Opportunity will be matched up to $5000 with a donor gift to our English department scholarship endowment.
The English scholarship for Access & Opportunity supports students like Karla Maravilla, a graduate of Granger High School and double major in English Language & Literature and Professional & Creative Writing at CWU. Karla was a research fellow in the McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement program and won an outstanding undergraduate presentation award at SOURCE. She is now a PhD student of English at the University of Notre Dame, researching Latinx experiences at the intersection of literature, health, education, and sustainability. Karla is also a poet, whose work explores illness, myth, and sacrifice in the experiences of migrant farmworkers across the United States, with poems published in The Acentos Review, Palette Poetry, and Poetry Northwest and a poetry manuscript “La Casa Negra” that was a national semifinalist for the 2022 Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize.
I hope you will join me in helping our English majors reach their educational and professional goals. Please also share our project page link with your network of friends, colleagues, and alumni who support the work of the English Department.
Thank you for making our giving project a success! - Dr. Christopher Schedler, Department Chair
