The room is equipped with clean yoga mats and a wide variety of equipment: medicine balls, stability balls, jump ropes, battling ropes, kettle bells, free weights, resistance bands, and so much more! The Fitness Center on GBC's Elko Campus (#17 on the campus map) is the site of many PEX courses including: Boot Camp, Strength Training, Core Fitness, Karate, Tai Chi, Rock Climbing, Yoga, Zumba, Volleyball, and Open Workout. Or enjoy a walk or run around GBC's beautiful Elko campus! Fitness Center Membership:

Students enrolled in three or more credits can sign up for the Fitness Center membership through the Continuing Education Department. The cost of gym membership is $60/semester. Membership students may utilize the workout room during regular Fitness Center hours which provides access to the cardio equipment, a universal weight machine and dumbbells. Fitness Center Staff are happy to assist with correct use of equipment. Here is a sampling of the Fitness Center's group exercise classes:


Youth Karate (non-credit community course):
This class is an introduction to martial arts for beginners and a continuation of training for more advanced students. Students will learn martial art skills through the practice of basics, forms, and sparring. Together, with the self-defense aspect, the student will develop a sense of well-being through the self-confidence produced by disciplined training. Tai Chi (non-credit community course):
Tai Chi is an internal martial art and a set of self-practicing exercises. It is comprised of four parts: meditation, warm-up exercises, Tai Chi Ch'uan movements, and cool-down exercises. By integrating these four parts, the student learns to combine each part of the body into a whole unit, exercising every muscle, joint, tendon, ligament, and especially the mind. Tai Chi can be used as a wellness program, an exercise program, and a relaxation program, all rolled into one. No special equipment required except for flat-bottomed shoes. Can be performed anywhere. Tai Chi teaches the student to live in harmony with oneself and nature. It is an art and is often called "poetry in motion." Yoga Basics (PEX 169):
Participation in the various class offerings will increase the student's overall flexibility, enhance physical strength and stamina, increase heart and lung function, and nurture the health and well-being of beginning and experienced yoga practitioners. Correct structural alignment will be emphasized as well as linking movement with breath; effort with relaxation; and the mind, body, and spirit. Zumba (PEX 149):
This course involves participating in physical activities in which each individual can achieve the benefits of realistic fitness goals through activities such as hi/low impact sessions, kickboxing, and interval and circuit training. Class can be modified for most fitness levels and conditions and is a great fat burner. Strength Training (PEX 180):
Get stronger, leaner, healthier! In this class, students will execute weight and strength training moves with correct form, resulting in reduced body fat, increased lean muscle, improved muscle sculpting, and more efficient calorie burning. The 1 credit class is perfect for a busy schedule, providing an intense 30-minute non-stop workout of major muscle groups. This class can be modified for any fitness level. NEW: Total Fitness/Weight Control (PEX 207)
This class will provide the information and tools to help the student make evidence-based decisions concerning fitness, nutrition, and weight control. The class includes a 30-minute workout followed by a lecture/activity on nutrition and applying nutrition concepts in real-world meal planning and preparation, for long-term weight control.
