GBC-NORCAT MST’s Augmented Reality Fire Extinguisher Training uses FiAR technology to create realistic fire scenarios while allowing participants to safely practice extinguisher selection, technique, and decision-making in a controlled environment.

That's why our MSHA Surface New Miner 24-Hour course includes hands-on emergency response training, giving participants the chance to practice CPR skills in a realistic learning environment.

Travis Macias used to be the new guy on a mine site, double checking his harness, hoping he hadn't missed anything. Thirty years later, he's the guy new hires are looking at, hoping they're doing it right.

The difference? Now he's standing beside them, showing them how.

Travis learned mining the hard way: one shift at a time, one lesson at a time, and sometimes one close call at a time. So when NORCAT-GBC MST built the Entry Level Miner program in Elko, he didn't just agree to teach it. He helped shape it around the things he wishes someone had taught him on day one.

Eleven courses in two weeks. Gear checks. Fall protection. Confined spaces. The stuff that sounds basic until you're the one 40 feet up without it.

What makes it stick isn't the curriculum, though. It's Travis.

He's not reading off a slide but telling new miners what he actually saw go wrong and what he'd do differently.

That's the difference between training someone and preparing them.

Back in the day, fire training meant lighting a tray of diesel in a parking lot. You had one shot with an extinguisher, and once it was empty, the lesson was over.

Today at MST Nevada, instructor Morgan Roberts sets the whole classroom on fire... virtually.

With Augmented Reality (AR) fire extinguishers and VR simulation tech, students can fight indoor blazes and practice complex hoisting rigs over and over again until safety becomes second nature.
