Great Basin College Student Government Association
SGA officers advocate for the needs of the students! The purpose of the SGA shall be to function as the representative body for all students to:
1.
Make recommendations concerning student welfare to those persons responsible for the administration of college policies.
2. Enact policies and/or procedures concerning students. Such policies and/or procedures should be consistent with rules, regulation and policies adopted by the Board of Regents.
3. Provide leadership for all SGA meetings of the student body.

Bessie Coleman:
(1892-1926) was an early American civil aviator. She was the first African American women and First Native American to hold a pilot license. She earned her license from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale on June 1921. She was also the first African American to earn an international pilot's license.

Dr. Patricia Bath:
(1942-2019) Was an American ophthalmologist, inventor, humanitarian and academic. She invented and improved the device for Laser Cataract surgery, changing how the world sees. Her invention was called the Laserphaco probe, which she patented in 1986. She was also the first African-American woman to serve on staff as a surgeon at UCLA medical center.

(1971-1996) Also known by his stage name 2Pac, was an American rapper and actor. Widely considered one of the most influential rappers of all time. Shakur is among he best-selling music artists having sold more than 75 million records worldwide. Much of Shakur's music has been noted for addressing contemporary social issues that plagued inner cities.

(1958-2008) Was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and philanthropist. Dubbed the "king of Pop" his is regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century. Over a four decade career, his contributions to music, dance, and fashion, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture.

(1942-1970) Hendrix was an American Guitarists, Singer, and Songwriter. Although his mainstream career spanned only four years, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and on of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century.

Aretha Franklin:
(1942-2018) was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. Referred to as the "Queen of Soul" has twice been place in Rolling Stone's 100 greatest artists of all time. With Global sales of over 75 million records, Franklin is one of the world's best-selling music artists. Franklins music is still being used consistently in movies, shows, etc. and has some of the most recognizable songs including "Respect".
