ECSD is seeking parents, students, employees and community members to lend their voices and perspectives through three Superintendent Advisory Groups.

Applications open Monday, September 14 for the:

Parent Advisory Group – Parents and legal guardians will help gather and review family and community feedback and strengthen opportunities for parent input.

Student Advisory Group – ECSD 10th- and 11th-grade students will have an opportunity to share student perspectives directly with the Superintendent.

Budget Advisory Group – Employees, parents and community members will provide perspective and recommendations on district budget priorities and long-term fiscal planning.

Stay Connected with the ECSD Board of Trustees

Starting with the Sept. 1 meeting, ECSD families will receive a Board Meeting Recap by email following regular Board meetings. Check your inbox for a quick look at Board actions, presentations, updates and other important district business.

Last week, the Board of Trustees traveled to Owyhee Combined, where trustees had the opportunity to connect with students and staff and tour progress on the new school construction.

A few highlights from the meeting:

Student Board Member Esmeralda Walker introduced herself to the Board. An Owyhee High School senior, Esmeralda is a multi-sport student-athlete and active FFA leader, serving as President of the Duck Valley FFA Chapter and Vice President of the Northern Zone of Nevada FFA.

The Owyhee High School Pow Wow Dance Troupe performed for the Board and shared more about the newly established school club and its work to celebrate and share cultural heritage.

New Owyhee Combined School Update: Director of Buildings and Sites Matthew Stahlke reported that construction remains on schedule and within budget, with completion anticipated in June 2027. Before the meeting, trustees toured the construction site to see the progress firsthand.

A big thank you to the Nevada Department of Transportation and all of the local agencies and partners who made the second annual Road Rally such a memorable experience for Elko County students at Carlin Combined Schools, Mountain View Elementary Elko, and West Wendover Elementary! 🚒🚑🚓

Our students had the chance to get an up-close look at the vehicles, equipment and people who work every day to keep our communities safe, connected and moving.

We’re grateful to NDOT for bringing this hands-on learning opportunity to our students and to every first responder, utility professional and community partner who took the time to share their work and answer plenty of questions!

And the rally isn’t finished yet! NDOT and its partners will be back next year to bring the experience to the remaining elementary schools across our district.

🍇 From the classroom to the Capitol!

Yesterday, Sage Elementary students and their teacher Kaitlin Jordan met with Governor Joe Lombardo, Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony, and Assemblyman Bert Gurr to continue their conversation about making the blue elderberry Nevada’s official state fruit!

Assemblyman Gurr plans to introduce the bill during the next legislative session, and these students will be there to help along the way.

What a great opportunity for our students to see government and the legislative process in action while having a voice in Nevada’s future. Way to represent, Sage Elementary! 👏
