To our incredible Southside teachers
There aren’t enough words to capture the impact you make every single day. You show up with patience, heart, and an unwavering commitment to your students - even on the hard days. You inspire curiosity, build confidence, and create a safe place where kids feel seen, valued, and capable.
Because of you, students don’t just learn, they grow. They learn to believe in themselves, to persevere, and to dream bigger.
Thank you for the long hours, the extra effort, the creativity, and the love you pour into your classrooms. Southside is stronger because of you, and our students are better because of you.
We see you. We appreciate you. We celebrate you. 💛

🌟 Help Us Celebrate Our Amazing Teachers & Staff at Southside Elementary! 🌟
Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4–7) is right around the corner, and we’re planning some fun surprises to show our incredible teachers and staff just how much they mean to us!
One easy (and fun!) way to get involved is by donating a small “From-the-Heart Prize.” These are simple, thoughtful items that you enjoy and would love to share—and they always end up being some of the most exciting parts of the week!
👉 Important: For safety and convenience, all food items must be store-bought and packaged (no homemade food items, please).
Here are a few ideas to get you thinking:
• A packaged snack basket or favorite treats
• A movie night kit (popcorn, candy, etc.)
• A cozy gift like a scarf or blanket
• A small themed basket (coffee lover, self-care, etc.)
• A bouquet of flowers or garden basket
• A $10 (or any amount) gift card
💡 If you have a special talent or something you’re known for, feel free to get creative—just keep items packaged and ready to gift!
If you’d like to contribute, simply send a message to [email protected] with the following information:
“I’ll donate: [your idea]
Winner can contact me at: [text/email]
– [Your name]”
Or you can simply bring your donations to the office for our lucky winners.
One or two donations per family is more than enough. We’re just looking to create a fun variety of prizes for our staff to enjoy!
These small acts of kindness truly add up to a week our teachers and staff will remember, and we appreciate any support you’re able to give.
Thank you for helping us celebrate our amazing team! 💙

Get in the Act delivered their innovative Science Theater Program to second grade students at Southside Elementary School on April 15-16, 2026. Get in the Act adds the Arts to S.T.E.M. learning - transforming S.T.E.M. to S.T.E.A.M. - with their hands-on theater framework serving as a pathway to science for students. Led by Teaching Artist Diane Handzel, students use dynamic theater techniques as a learning framework to examine rocks, soil and mineral concepts. The workshops allow every student to actively participate in hands-on dramatizations that connect learning to their everyday world. By uncovering the story through drama, students and teachers begin to see science in a new way, an active creative way.
Get in the Act would like to thank Komatsu Mining Foundation, Nevada Gold Mines, Kinross Nevada, Orla Mining, Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts for supporting Science Theater at Southside.
