Permits can be picked up during this weekend's orientations at the McDonnell Center. After Sunday, permits can be picked up at the Office of Public Safety located at the Gate House. If you have any questions, please contact Officer Gooden at (304) 704-9111 Monday - Friday 7am to 3pm.

Graceland Inn entrance to campus is closed due to tree trimming.

Students: Residential Students are not permitted to park at Madden Center parking lot from the hours of 9am-5pm Monday thru Friday. However, you can still drive to lunch but will need to park in a Residential Hall parking lot (Darby Hall/GribbleHall/Booth Hall). Please do not park in Graceland Inn. It's for Visitor Only parking for that establishment and our campus.

Also, First Year Residents (orange sticker) are now permitted to park on the back row only at Roxanna Booth/Gribble Hall parking lot, upper section. All other FYR students need to park at McDonnell Center parking lot or risk being cited for improper location.

Notice to all students/staff on campus. Warnings were given out today for parking violations. Warnings will continue tomorrow and then we will be ticketing those who do not have a permit, parking in incorrect zones etc. If you have any questions about parking on campus, feel free to contact the Office of Public Safety by calling (304) 704-9111 or stop in our office at Martin Field House.

Davis & Elkins College is proud to launch a new online parking permit system (Rydin PermitExpress). The new permit system brings about some important changes that you need to be aware of:

· All student parking permits issued prior to the new system are no longer valid and must be replaced using the new online permit system. Sorry for the inconvenience this might cause, however this new system will streamline the parking process and eliminate “issues” that have surfaced in the past.

· All parking permits are valid for an academic year and all permits now have an expiration date of Saturday, May 20, 2017 (Commencement).

· To expedite the online process, a “charge to my student account” option is provided. Permits will then by distributed by the Office of Public Safety. The Office of Public Safety will be distributing parking permits and providing assistance throughout Orientation Weekend and throughout the first week of classes.

· In closing, students who do not have a vehicle on campus are asked to complete the Request to Remove Vehicle Registration Fee form on a yearly basis. (I know a number of these have already been submitted for the 2016-2017 academic year.)

In the past 4 months all Security Officers attended 9 security training; all of National Standards. The Security Officers are now operation under 5 Standard Operating Practices; all of National Standards.

D&E Security Officers will soon initiate our “Open Door” program:

(A Note from the Director) in most campuses around the country, one of the largest issues facing the campus community is theft. The sad fact is most of the thefts could have been prevented. Thefts most likely occur when areas are left open and unattended.

The “Open Door” program is a crime prevention tool used to remind occupants to close/lock their doors when not in use. It takes a community effort to prevent crime.

Security Officers primary perform two types of calls: Service Call and Reportable Incidents. An example of a service call can be described as a call requesting us to open or lock a door, provide an es**rt, etc. An example of a reportable call can be described as fire alarm, safety maintenance condition, etc.
