🎉🌎 ¡VIVA EES! What an unforgettable night!

🪅❤️ Our 2nd Annual Latin Festival was filled with culture, community, and fun! From delicious food trucks and colorful crafts to prizes, piñatas, and amazing performances by our K–5 Dual Language Immersion students, it was truly a night to remember! 🌮🎶

A HUGE thank you to our teachers, staff, families, and community for making this celebration possible! ❤️

💛💙 Our fourth graders had a wonderful time on their field trip to Old Salem! It was a great opportunity for students to step back in time and learn about the history of the Moravians and what early American life was like. Throughout the day, students learned how the Moravians cooked their meals, gathered to eat, slept in their homes, and carried out daily life in the 1700s. They were able to see and discuss how families lived, worked, and cared for one another during this important period in North Carolina history. Our students represented Elkin Elementary well, asked thoughtful questions, and showed great interest in the history around them. Thank you for your support in making this meaningful learning experience possible!

⛰️🌿 Third Grade Takes Learning to New Heights at Pilot Mountain State Park! 🌿⛰️

We had an AMAZING time yesterday exploring the great outdoors at Pilot Mountain State Park! Learning came to life as students connected what we’ve been studying in the classroom to the world around them. 🔎🌎
Our day included:�🪨 Exploring landforms and observing the incredible views from the top of Pilot Mountain.�🧭 Learning how to orient ourselves and navigate using a compass.�🔥 Discovering the fire triangle and understanding the differences between prescribed burns and wildfires.�🐾 and learning about the animals that call Pilot Mountain and its surrounding habitats home.
This field trip was the perfect blend of science, geography, environmental education, and hands-on discovery! Our students returned with new knowledge, exciting experiences, and a greater appreciation for the natural world right here in our own backyard. 💚
A SPECIAL THANK YOU to our family chaperones for helping make this field trip so successful, and to Friends of State Parks for providing grant funding to cover our transportation costs! 🙌💚
Learning is an adventure, and third grade is always ready to explore! 🦌🌲

🎃👻 Pumpkin carving with a twist in Mrs. A’s class! They used cookie cutters to create our pumpkin faces and had so much fall fun along the way! 🧡🍂

💙💛 EES Events of the Week, 10/12/26

Our third grade IE enrichment group has been busy over the past few weeks learning about Nick de Jong, a playground designer from the Netherlands known for creating artistic and imaginative play sculptures.
Inspired by Scholastic SuperSTEM, students explored the engineering design process and discovered that great designs begin with an idea, but often require teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and a little flexibility along the way!
Students worked in teams to:
💡 Brainstorm ideas for their own unique playgrounds
✏️ Create 2-D sketches of their designs
🔧 Think like engineers as they planned and revised
♻️ Use recyclable materials to transform their sketches into 3-D playground models
And the results were AMAZINGLY creative! Do you see the Titanic? 🚢 Or maybe a treehouse? 🌳 What about an octopus? 🐙 Or even a prehistoric scene complete with a T-Rex? 🦖
Not every vision came to life exactly as students had imagined and that was part of the learning! Engineers don’t always get it right the first time. They design, build, test, problem-solve, and try again.
Our third graders had a great time collaborating while completing their first engineering design challenge. 💙💛

🧥🧢 Lost & Found is Filling Up! 🎒👕
Our Lost & Found has quite a few items waiting to be reunited with their owners! Please remind your child to stop by and take a look if they’re missing a jacket, sweatshirt, lunchbox, water bottle, or other item. You may be surprised by what they find! 👀

⭐ Helpful reminder: Please label your child’s belongings with their first and last name. It makes it much easier for us to return lost items quickly.
