💙 A HISTORIC DAY FOR ELKIN MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS! 💛

Yesterday was one for the history books as our newly formed EMS Girls Soccer Team took the field for their very first match! While we didn’t come away with the win, we couldn’t be more proud of these girls! Their hard work, determination, teamwork, and commitment have already made this season something special. ️

This is just the beginning of what we know will be an incredible journey. We are so excited to watch this team grow and continue to make history! 💙🦌💛

It truly is a GREAT day to be a Buckin’ Elk!

🎉 Welcome to Our First Full Week, Elks! 💙💛

What a GREAT start to the school year! We had an amazing first three days last week, and we are so excited for our first full week together!

Be sure to check out our Events of the Week so you can stay up to date on everything happening at EMS. There’s lots going on, and we don’t want you to miss a thing!

Our first athletic events are THIS THURSDAY—and they’re right here at home! Come out and support our Elks as we kick off the athletic season! 📣💙💛

Free & Reduced Lunch Applications: Families interested in applying are encouraged to do so ASAP. Applications can be completed online via our website or you can request a paper form from the EMS office. If you have questions or need assistance, please call the school office.

Finally, all beginning of the year forms are due back on Wednesday, August 19. Please return all forms to the student's homeroom teacher.

🎉 Welcome Back, Students & Families! 🎉

We’re excited to kick off the 2026–27 school year! We encourage our students and families to get the Remind App in order to stay up-to-date on all things school-related this year! Instructions to sign up are included in the attached graphic.

Here’s what’s happening during our first week:

🏫 MONDAY, AUGUST 10 — OPEN HOUSE
All students are invited to stop by Open House from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM to meet teachers, get settled, and get ready for a great year!

👨‍👩‍👧 PARENT MEETINGS — 8:30 AM & 6:00 PM
Parents and guardians, please plan to attend one of our parent meetings. We’d love to see you there and share important information as we begin the new school year.

🏐🏈⚽ ATHLETIC MEETING — 6:30 PM
Any student participating in a fall sport and their parent or guardian should attend the Athletic Meeting at 6:30 PM Monday evening.

📚 WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12 — FIRST DAY BACK!

Dear Elkin City Schools Families, Staff and Community Members,

The safety of our students, staff, families, and the greater Elkin community remains our highest priority. To help ensure that emergency vehicles can quickly and safely respond to calls for service, changes have been made to our after-school dismissal traffic patterns.

Effective immediately, the following traffic restrictions will be enforced during afternoon dismissal:

> Elkin Elementary School: Vehicles waiting in the afternoon car line may not block traffic on Hwy 268 West at North Front Street to Old Virginia Road or in front of the Elkin Fire Department. Signage will be added to show a stopping point on North Front Street.

> Elkin Middle School and Elkin High School: Vehicles waiting in the afternoon car line may not block or park on the side of Elk Spur Street.

To help keep these roadways clear for emergency responders and ensure the safety for passing motorists, vehicles that are stopped or idling in these restricted areas before the dismissal bell at either school will be directed to move. Drivers who fail to comply may be subject to a traffic citation.

We ask that families plan to arrive within a reasonable time frame for dismissal. There is no need to arrive an hour or more before dismissal and wait in the roadway. Your cooperation helps keep traffic moving and ensures a safe dismissal for everyone.

We understand that dismissal can be a busy time, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we implement these changes. These measures are intended to ensure that firefighters, law enforcement, EMS personnel, and other emergency responders have immediate access to our schools and surrounding neighborhoods when every second matters.

We've got some new faces at Elkin Middle School and we couldn't be more excited to welcome them to the EMS family. Ms. Karen Barrio will be joining us as our new World Languages Teacher and Officer Bo Pyrtle will be our new School Resource Officer for this school year. If you see Ms. Barrio or Officer Pyrtle, please help us give them a warm welcome.

It’s that time again!! Mark your calendars for our Fall Sports Athlete/Parent Meeting on August 10, 2026 at 6:30pm in Dixon Auditorium. It is important that all athletes and a parent/guardian attend this meeting. Please see the Fall Sports Tryout Schedule to see when tryouts will be held for your particular sport.
