American School of Karate & Judo

American School of Karate & Judo ASKJ is a Martial Arts School that primarily teaches 5 Circle System and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Participation in competitions is optional.

The American School of Karate & Judo (“ASKJ”) teaches a system of martial arts known as the 5 Circle System, which was founded by Grandmasters John Byrne and Edward Byrne. The 5 Circle System is an integration of techniques from numerous martial arts, including Taekwondo, Karate, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu. ASKJ’s program is designed to help students grow physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally,

while teaching students to defend themselves against various threats of violence. ASKJ’s program is also tailored to develop a student's self-confidence, leadership skills, and principles of good moral character. Achievement at ASKJ is not measured in championships or trophies. Instead, achievement is measured in terms of accomplishing personal goals, conquering fear, and achieving personal excellence. ASKJ also teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), which is a martial art that focuses on grappling and ground fighting techniques with the goal of gaining a dominant position over an opponent and forcing a submission using joint-locks and choke-holds. BJJ promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can defend against a bigger, stronger assailant. The classes are designed for students who are interested in self-defense, fitness, and personal improvement.

Below are the relevant dates/times and schedule changes related to the upcoming Testing and Banquet:

Black/Brown Belt Pretesting will be held next Sunday, August 16th at 1:30 pm.

Pretesting for White through Red Belts will be held during normal classes from Sat, Aug 15 through Thurs, Aug 20. Students who are not trying to test on August 22 are still able to attend normal classes during pretesting week.

Open Floor will be held Friday, August 21 from 5:45-6:30pm for students who get permission to test during the week. There is no junior martial arts class that evening.

There are NO classes Saturday, August 22 due to Testing, which starts at 12:00pm.

Youth BJJ Promotion Day is Wednesday, August 26, during normal class time at 6:30.

Banquet Night (where student receive their new ranks) will be held Friday, August 28th at 6:00pm. There is no junior martial arts class that evening and Adult BJJ class will end at 6:00pm.
