"Sinew" sutures indigo textiles and designs that draw from the printing practices, writing systems and cosmologies in the African diaspora. This immersive work invites viewers to engage with indigo as a hue of resilience, creativity and knowledge. "Sinew" explores the multiple lives of these materials; cotton, indigo, cowrie shell beads and venerates the hands and memories that carried them.

Wabwila Mugala is a Zambian-born designer and interdisciplinary artist currently based in Lawrence, Kansas. She received her BFA in New Media and Design at UNC Greensboro and MFA in Printmaking at Arizona State University (2025). Her practice engages with the call-and-response within the African diaspora which has led her to build her own visual glossary of diasporic symbols, patterns and designs.
