Learning looks a little different when you take the classroom into the field! 🌱💧🐾

EACC Veterinary Careers students spent the day at the PayDirt In Field event, hosted by the Elkhart County Soil and Water Conservation District at Hess Family Farm.

Students got an up-close look at how land and water management directly impact livestock health, water quality and the surrounding watershed. From exploring soil and conservation practices to seeing technology and equipment in action, students were able to connect concepts they learn in the classroom with how they’re applied in the real world.

Even better? They had the opportunity to learn directly from professionals working to protect our land, water and natural resources – and make some great community connections along the way.

Experiences like this show our students just how interconnected agriculture, animal health and environmental stewardship really are. 🌎

First-year Pre-Nursing: Clinical & Patient Care students got an inside look at what it takes to step into the healthcare workforce during a mock onboarding experience with professionals from Beacon Health System!

Representatives from Beacon’s patient care leadership, Human Resources, Talent Acquisition and Professional Development teams walked students through the onboarding experience, giving them a chance to practice the professional skills they'll need as they prepare for internships and future careers in healthcare.

But the visit was about more than preparing for that first day on the job. It was also an opportunity for Beacon's team to learn more about the training our students receive at the Elkhart Area Career Center and the ways our Pre-Nursing program is preparing students for the healthcare workforce.

And they liked what they saw! 💙

The Beacon team is already making plans to return this spring to connect with our senior students about employment and education opportunities available after graduation. We're also excited to welcome four new Beacon representatives to our Pre-Nursing Advisory Board, strengthening a partnership that helps us keep classroom training connected to the needs of our local healthcare industry.

A huge thank you to Andrea Miller, Jackie Marschke, Kara Palmer and Christina Metz for spending time with our students and investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals!

Now Hiring: Veterinary Careers Technical Assistant at the Elkhart Area Career Center!

Do you have experience in veterinary medicine, animal care, or a related field and enjoy sharing what you know with others? The Elkhart Area Career Center (EACC) is looking for a Veterinary Careers Technical Assistant to join our team and work alongside our instructor to help students build the skills they need for future careers working with animals.

About the Role:

Our Veterinary Careers students learn by doing, and our Technical Assistant plays an important role in supporting that hands-on learning.

Working alongside the classroom instructor, the Technical Assistant will help:

• Support and reinforce hands-on instruction
• Assist students as they practice and develop technical skills
• Supervise students and help maintain a safe, productive learning environment
• Reinforce proper safety procedures
• Help manage classroom tools, equipment, and supplies
• Support daily classroom, lab, and cleanup activities

This is a great opportunity to use your experience working with animals to help prepare the next generation of veterinary and animal-care professionals.

Qualifications:

Candidates must meet the educational requirements for a Technical Assistant through 48 hours of college credit, an associate degree or higher, or the ParaPro Assessment. Experience working with students and/or experience in veterinary medicine, animal care, or a related field is valuable for this role.

What does CAREER-READY look like at the Elkhart Area Career Center? These numbers tell part of the story.

During the 2025–2026 school year, EACC students earned 764 Credentials of Value – industry certifications and post-secondary credentials that students can take with them beyond high school.

> Industry certifications demonstrate that a student has met standards recognized within a specific career field. EACC students earned 464 industry certifications last year, including credentials such as Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Child Development Associate (CDA), Indiana Jail Officer Certification, and the Python Institute's entry-level Python certification (PCEP).

> Post-secondary credentials are college-level certificates students earn while they're still in high school. Last year, EACC students earned 300 post-secondary certifications, including Ivy Tech certificates in areas such as Automotive Service Technology, Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, and Elementary Education.

And career preparation at EACC doesn't stop in the classroom.

> EACC students completed 570 work-based learning experiences with employers throughout our community last year. EACC student-interns enter the workplace after completing a full year of training in their career program and earning the recommendation of their industry-experienced instructor. They enter the workplace with foundational technical skills and then build upon those skills alongside industry professionals in a real-world setting.

These aren't just a few hours of job shadowing: 300 students completed at least 75 hours with an employer, and 172 students completed 150 hours or more.

Behind every number is a student who left EACC with more than they came with: new skills, real experience, recognized credentials, college credit and a clearer path toward what's next.

We're proud of what EACC students accomplished in 2025–2026 – and we're ready to see what they'll do this year!

As we welcome a new group of students to EACC today, we love seeing where last year's students are headed next!

Rashyia completed Dental Assisting at EACC, interned with Rick Burns Orthodontics during the school year, and continued working with their team this summer. Now she's headed to college to pursue a career in dental hygiene!

Do you have construction experience and enjoy sharing what you know with others? The Elkhart Area Career Center (EACC) is looking for a Construction Trades Technical Assistant to join our team and work alongside our instructors to help students build the skills they need for successful careers in the construction industry.

About the Role:
Our Construction Trades students learn by doing, and our Technical Assistant plays an important role in making that hands-on learning possible.

The operating room depends on skilled, detail-oriented professionals. Now you can help prepare the next generation.

The Elkhart Area Career Center (EACC) is seeking a Surgical Services Instructor to teach high school juniors and seniors as they prepare for careers in surgical technology and sterile processing.

Students in this hands-on program develop the technical knowledge and professional skills needed to work in surgical settings. Through classroom instruction and lab experiences, they learn surgical instrumentation, sterile processing, aseptic technique, infection prevention, operating room procedures, patient safety, and the professionalism expected in today's healthcare environments.

Qualifications

Candidates must either:
• Hold an associate's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution with at least four years of directly related experience in surgical services or sterile processing, or
• Hold (or be eligible to obtain) an Indiana Department of Education Workplace Specialist License in Health Occupations: Health Careers.

Preferred

• Bachelor's degree or higher
• Associate's degree in surgical services or sterile processing
• At least two years of directly related work experience
• Current certification or licensure in a surgical or sterile processing discipline

No teaching degree is required.

These students earned their spot at nationals by first winning the Indiana SkillsUSA State Championship in their respective competitions — an incredible accomplishment that reflects countless hours of preparation, technical skill, creativity, and determination.

The 2nd-year students in Early Childhood Education attended their Ivy Tech graduation and decorated their caps. They have officially completed their dual credit for Ivy Tech!

In the Medical Assisting 1 program, students have to run a mock clinic for the Elkhart Area Chamber of Commerce's event, "Business After Hours". Students ran a mock clinic where visitors from the Chamber signed in as a patient, spun a wheel to see what type of procedure they would be doing for this visit, then taken to that station where EACC Year 1 Pre-Nursing students performed those procedures on manikins. All visitors were then introduced to Annie, their high-fidelity manikin. Skill stations that were set up for demonstration in this mock clinic included CPR, Tuberculin Skin Testing, Staple/Suture Removal, EKG acquisition, Blood draws, splinting of an injury, urinalysis, and anthropometric measurements on a newborn.
