There are several candidates for school board, as well as those supporting them, who are making claims against conservative candidates that are untrue and ugly. These smears won’t work. Here’s why:
Some candidates are labeled “Extremists” without one single piece of evidence supporting that ugly label. In fact the irony of this label is that the truth is quite the contrary.
Conservative candidates want schools to do what taxpayer dollars are funding schools to do… teach children the fundamentals to provide a solid foundation for their future learning and success as adults. Conservatives are NOT trying to introduce new ideas (like CRT, SEL, etc), and are trying to keep s*xualization OUT of the classroom and school libraries. These are in fact the “extreme” new concepts that have never been brought to the classroom before that conservatives do NOT want children to be subject to or indoctrinated with at this point in their highly impressionable minds.
Conservatives fully support the idea that good teachers should flourish in a classroom with young minds anxious to learn from the best. You cannot be “for” one without the other so it is foolish to assume conservatives are “anti-teacher” as has been claimed.
On the other hand, it is conservatives that have equated the nationwide (as well as local) simultaneous decline in academic achievement and teacher enthusiasm with the growing trend toward PBIS, RTI and SEL which limits a teacher’s and indeed a school’s ability to deal effectively with bad behaviors that do not respond to positive reinforcement, leaving those children to disrupt classrooms and bully other students. This not only causes a significant decline in classroom harmony and learning achievement but can also cause physical and emotional harm to other children up to and including su***de. This is not conspiracy theory; all of this has been seen at a local level THIS YEAR. If it is “extreme” to want schools to achieve higher standards of education by creating a positive learning environment where both teachers and students can thrive, then I would appreciate a good explanation why this is “extreme”.
Some candidates dismiss the notion that CRT, the existence of po*******hy in school libraries, and perverting children with adult s*xual identity issues exists in our schools, calling it “right wing conspiracy theories”. While it is true that SOME school districts do not have these within their halls, other districts around the nation (and locally as well) are, in fact, bringing these radical and inappropriate things into their schools. Loudon County Virginia school board is a glaring example of what can happen when a school board goes out of control, but they are certainly not alone. Not surprisingly, those districts successfully keeping it out of their schools are typically run by conservative boards. To continue keeping these out of our schools we need conservative board members in all districts.
Lastly, it is without question that only a minority of people might argue against, that school board members should be accountable to the parents, community, and the law. A recent Rasmussen poll from October 3, 2022 concludes exactly that:
“Voters overwhelmingly oppose s*xually explicit books in public school libraries, and believe schools have an obligation to inform parents what their children are being taught.
A new national telephone and online survey by Rasmussen Reports and the Capitol Resource Institute finds that 89% of Likely U.S. voters think it is important that public schools fully inform parents about what is being taught to their children in classrooms, including 70% who say it is Very Important.
Sixty-nine percent (69%) of voters believe books containing explicit s*xual depictions of s*x acts, including homos*xual s*x, should not be present in public high school libraries. The majority opposed to s*xually explicit books in public school libraries rises to 79% for middle schools and 85% for elementary schools.”
Although in past generations it has always been this way, recently some local boards have been attempting to silence dissent and conduct school business, change policy, and make decisions contrary to the best interest of the students, community and parents in secret. We cannot sit in silence and allow this corruption to creep slowly and systematically into the conduct of local boards. If it is “extreme” to insist on complete transparency and compliance with the law, then I would appreciate a good explanation why this is “extreme”.
