Yesterday Some of my Central Class of '71 remembered our dear classmate who passed, Jim Walch. Jim was a lifelong artist, humanitarian, gentleman, and one of a kind person.😇🎨❤️🤗

A retrospective of Jim’s art will be on display at the Carter House Museum throughout the summer. Treat yourself to a viewing of his unique talent.

Our Class Reunion is only 2 weeks away. Just a few reminders:

*Bring $5.00 to cover cost of increases in food (per previous email)

*Bring $10.00 to pay if you ordered a Memory book (it turned out AWESOME)!

*To extend visiting time, you are all invited to an afterparty at Jean (Powers) Kuehl’s mother’s house @ 300 1st Street, Elkader. Beverages and snacks provided.

A fun program is being planned that is sure to bring back memories and make you laugh!

Dear Classmate,

As you may, or may not know, our committee has unanimously decided to postpone our reunion scheduled for October 9th, 2021.

We made this decision out of respect for the safety of us all, especially those who are immunosuppressed.
Our rationale:
The delta variant of Covid is on the rise and much more contagious than the initial Covid virus.
Even vaccinated people are having breakthrough infections.
The CDC now recommends masking for all people, vaccinated or unvaccinated. This would be a real hardship at the kind of reunion we have planned.
Concern over people canceling if we have it in October, which defeats the purpose for a reunion.

Questions you might have:
When will we have the reunion?
The committee has tentatively set Saturday August 27, 2022 as the date of our 50 +1 reunion. We are changing the venue to The Elkader Golf and Country Club with Johnson’s Restaurant as our caterer.
The Country Club now has handicapped accessible ramp and bathrooms for the upper floor which makes for a nice, large area to gather and visit.
Timing will be the same: 5:00pm Happy Hour with dinner served around 6:00pm.

What about my RSVP money?
We have a bank account at Freedom Bank in Elkader that is in the name of our class. Kathy Erickson is the main user with Vicki Carolan as the secondary. Your money has been deposited there and will stay secure until our reunion. That would be the preferable choice, defraying the work and cost of mailing checks out to everyone and eliminating you from having to write and send another check later.
However, if you insist, we will send you a check . Please let Kathy know via email, phone call, or snail mail.

How will I receive my memory book?
We will plan to distribute the books at our reunion August 27, 2022. This will give another opportunity for more classmates to turn in their biographies. Also, anyone who has turned in a bio already can submit any updates .
The new deadline is July1, 2022.

Hope you are all well and coping with Covid.
This is an informal letter to our classmates of 1971.
Do you think it is safe to have our class reunion this year?

I’m hoping all who wish will be vaccinated by then.

My time to arrange details is limited because my husband, Howard, has Alzheimer’s and my days are unpredictable.
