If you're a homeschooling family in America (or even internationally), it's very important that you know about our friends at HSLDA (Homeschool Legal Defense Association). We are incredibly grateful for the work they do for homeschool families! Since 1983, this non-profit organization has been standing up for the freedom to homeschool.

📝 When legislation could impact homeschooling, HSLDA keeps families informed and advocates with lawmakers to protect homeschool freedom.

💡 When families need help understanding their state’s homeschool laws, HSLDA provides the information and resources to help them navigate the requirements.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 When a member family faces a legal challenge, HSLDA can provide legal support and help families understand their rights and options.

On their website (link in comments!), you can:
• Track proposed homeschool legislation and sign up for updates
• Find homeschool laws and requirements for all 50 states and U.S. territories
• Explore resources for getting started, teaching high school, and more
• Browse articles, podcasts, webinars, and master classes
• Find resources for special needs, testing, and other homeschool needs
• Learn about grants and financial assistance

~ What about membership? ~

HSLDA membership gives families an extra layer of support when it comes to the legal side of homeschooling. Members have access to HSLDA’s attorneys for homeschool-related legal questions and, when HSLDA is able to assist, legal representation when a family's right to homeschool is challenged. Members also receive access to additional resources, forms, discounts, and other benefits.

Membership helps support the larger work HSLDA does to advocate for homeschool freedom across the country.

We are so thankful for the people who have spent more than 40 years working to protect our homeschool freedom, and for the families and members who help make that work possible ❤️

✨ Thursday Virtual Workshop! ✨

This Thursday, we are having our "Where DO I Begin" ZOOM workshop for new or prospective homeschoolers. This workshop is often highly in-demand, so we offer a virtual option to serve more families, including those who are unable to make the trip to our store. We hope this is a blessing to many! 💛

🔗 Registration is still open! See the link in the comments.

❤️ If you would, please pass this on to someone new to or considering homeschooling! Thank you 😊

It's that time of the year...

As our family sat down to look at fall schedules, we started out excited and looking forward to what's to come this fall. However, that quickly changed to anxiety as we realized how full our plates really were. Just like that, an empty calendar becomes filled with classes, co-ops, youth group, extra-curricular, etc. And literally, it's JUST LIKE THAT. A filled calendar, a good-bye to the carefree summer, anxiety about all the unknowns and what-ifs that come with back-to-school.

Even as homeschoolers, we feel it. We are not immune. We are not alone.

But remember, there is nothing magical about the day after Labor Day. We don't have to start "school" that day or even that week, and we don't have to have everything figured out. We still have the freedom to start slow. To enjoy the "not back to school". These are the perfect days to hit the museums, parks, and yes, donut shops. So much learning can happen during our "not back to school" days.

So, I encourage you to stop and take a breath. Remember your why and enjoy your "not back to school" days!

If you need any assistance or encouragement in planning your year, we would love to see you at Heppner's!
