Lakeland staff is so blessed by the dedicated retired teachers in the RODEO group! They take care of us all year long, especially on days when we may forget to take care of ourselves. Today, we were treated to an ice cream truck in the middle of a crazy-busy pre-Open House afternoon.

RODEO originated with the retired teachers who worked under the principalship of Nancy Muhlig, and they carry on her legacy of kindness and support. We love you Mrs. Muhlig and RODEO!!! 🧡🖤🧡

Tonight—Thursday, August 27th—is our Lakeland Back to School Open House from 5:30-7:00 pm and we cannot wait to see you all!

Students will be able to walk the halls, see their classrooms and meet their teachers.

Lakeland has been a busy place this summer and it continues to be as we prepare for our upcoming school year. Many projects are close to completion however the east access drive is not quite complete. Sacred Heart Church, which is located across the street, is also under construction.

As you plan your evening at Lakeland, please refer to your LES Communication email for four parking options for families.

We are all parents so please use caution as you drive through the school district.

📣 Teacher letters are on the way!
Class assignment "Welcome Back Letters" were mailed out this past Friday, 8/21. Be sure to have your child check the mailbox early this coming week for a letter from their upcoming teacher!

We hope you'll join us at this year's Lakeland Elementary Back to School Open House on Thursday, August 27, from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm.

Take a 5-Minute Parent Survey: Safe Routes To School Grant 🚲👟

Elk Rapids Schools and the Village of Elk Rapids are working collaboratively to apply for a Safe Routes to School grant to improve walking conditions and sidewalk access within the Village. Another goal is to connect existing sidewalks to the new Elk Rapids Library, scheduled to open in May of 2027 on Cairn Highway.

Over the next several weeks, school and village employees will begin the data collection phase of the grant application. The first phase of data collection is a parent survey.

If possible, we ask each parent to complete this 5-minute survey, which provides key information about the ability of our local community to walk or bike within the Village and surrounding areas. Your support is greatly appreciated!
