Brother to Brother Academy

Roszalyn Akins, a retired educator of Fayette County Schools and the founder of BMW Academy established such a program for African American males because of the limited representation of African American males on the Honor Roll an in advanced level classes. Akins’ academic enrichment program as spared churches and schools in Covington, Russellville, Richmond, and other cities to partner together t

o reach, teach and keep this population of young males from failing and focus on student achievement and academic success. Black Males Working Academy has been in existence for years and currently has 101 young males enrolled. EXPECTATIONS:

Ø Must attend Saturday BTB Academy weekly (ALL absences must be excused)
Ø Must attend school regularly
Ø Must maintain a 2.5 grade point average
Ø Must turn in ALL homework and classroom assignments on time
Ø Must show constant improvements in grades and behavior
Ø Must limit television and video game usage to one hour per night
Ø Read 60 minutes per day or one book a week
Ø Must read Think Big by Dr. Ben Carson
Ø Must participate in community service
Ø Must be groomed daily
Ø Must maintain good conduct at home, school, and in the community
