🏗️⚙️ EHS Engineering: More Than Just a Project! 🐾 💛

A representative from the Kentucky Department of Education communications department visited Elizabethtown High School to learn more about the innovative work happening in our engineering program Wednesday.

Assistant Director of Communications Myles Young came to see the Lake Roomba project created by EHS engineering students, but they left seeing so much more.

KDE got a firsthand look at what teacher Missy Mills and her students have accomplished through hands-on learning, creativity, problem-solving and real-world engineering. From designing solutions to bringing ideas to life, EHS students are showing what’s possible when they’re given the opportunity to create, explore and innovate.

The Elizabethtown Independent Board of Education met in a special called meeting today, August 26, 2026, and voted to adopt the district's 2026-27 property tax rate. The adopted rate is unchanged from the rate the Board proposed at its August 7 meeting.

The general fund tax rate is increasing from 85.7¢ to 87.3¢ per $100 of assessed property value.

🐾 Building the Portrait of an E-Town Graduate 💛

What should an Elizabethtown Independent Schools graduate know, be able to do and become when they walk across the stage?

That’s the question we’re exploring as we develop the Portrait of an E-Town Graduate, and we know the answer should come from more than just our schools.

We recently brought together community members to share their perspectives, experiences and hopes for the future of our students. Their voices will help shape a vision for the skills, characteristics and qualities our graduates need to succeed in college, careers, relationships and life.

A special thank you to the University of Kentucky Center for Next Generation Leadership for leading the meeting. Carmen Coleman and James Neihof did an outstanding job facilitating the meeting.

🎉 🐾 Communication creates possibility: Celebrating EIS speech-language pathologists 🥳 💛

Speech-Language Pathologist Week, also known as Speech Pathology Week, runs from Aug. 23 to Aug. 29, 2026. This year’s theme, “Communication creates possibility,” speaks to something the district's five speech-language pathologists live out daily: communication support is what allows people to connect, learn, and thrive at every stage of life.

EIS is home to five speech-language pathologists working across the district's elementary and middle schools. Lauren Hinton and Taylor Baird serve Panther Academy, Contessa Vick oversees Helmwood Heights Elementary, and Katie Neihoff and Macie Matherly support Morningside Elementary, with Matherly also supporting students at T.K. Stone Middle School.

🍎💛 It’s Always a Great Day to Be a Panther ... Especially at Lunch! 🐾

Lunch is more than just a chance to refuel! Students at Morningside Elementary and Helmwood Heights Elementary take a little time to enjoy some food, have some fun with friends and recharge for the second half of the school day. 😋🥪

Elizabethtown Independent Schools has named Scotty Merida as interim Director of Student Services, bringing decades of education leadership experience to the role during the district's search for a permanent hire.

Merida arrives with a wide-ranging résumé built over nearly three decades in Kentucky schools, retiring after spending 27 years at Garrard County Schools. He was a science teacher before moving into administration, serving as both assistant principal and principal at the district's middle school.

From there, Merida took on district-level leadership roles as Director of Transportation and Director of Maintenance, and later worked with the DPP program conducting court appearances and home visits.

Merida's ties to athletics run just as deep. He played baseball at Cumberland College before going on to serve as head baseball coach and assistant basketball coach at Garrard County High School.

🍫💙 PayDay, Panther Style! 🐾💛

Friday was a blast as EIS staff hit the schools to celebrate PayDay and share a little sweetness with our incredible employees!

While we were making our rounds, Panther Academy students were having fun on the playground and in the cafeteria, Morningside Elementary was celebrating August birthdays, and a couple of students wanted a moment to grab a picture with Superintendent Paul M. Mullins. 📸😊

It was a great day to be out in our schools, seeing our students and staff, sharing some smiles and celebrating the people who make EIS special.

We might have started with PayDays, but the real payoff was getting to spend the day with our Panther family! 💛 🐾🍫

I ran into a few of our kindergarten Panthers in the Panther Academy cafeteria, and they had one important message for Panther Nation:

👋 “HI, PANTHER NATION!” 🐾💛

These little Panthers are already bringing plenty of personality and Panther Pride to the school year! 🎒😊

🎺🥁 The Marching Panthers Are On the Move! 🐾💛

The EHS Marching Panthers brought the sound, energy and Panther Pride to the Heartland Parade on Saturday!

Our musicians and performers proudly represented Elizabethtown High School and EIS, filling the streets with music and giving the crowd a reason to stand up and cheer.
