It's All Relative - Genealogy

It's All Relative - Genealogy Relatives and descendants of Gillilands, Morelans Bowmans, Koelschs, Stringham families Also, a specific place for interviews, photos, and recollections.

This is Facebook Site dedicated to the research and educational purposes regarding the Koelsch, Bowman, Prothe, and Morelan families and their ancestors. I have been talking with a lot of relatives who have been giving me a lot of information for my genealogy/family tree research. I thought it was necessary to place this information on a facebook site so that everyone has equal access to the inform

ation. Since there will be lots of family members, from different sides of my family, I am asking that you place the family name (Koelsch,Morelan, Prothe,Bowman, etc) so that everyone knows what side of the family they are posting about. I am currently the only admin, however, I welcome any other person in the family to become an ADMIN of the site as well. One more thing, this site is specifically for genealogy data so keep general conversations out of this site as much as possible. I'm excited about this page and hope this will create a great genealogy/family tree for us all. I am open to all advice and comments...thank you.

"Good timber does not grow with ease:
The stronger wind, the stronger trees;
The further sky, the greater length;

By sun and cold, by rain and snow,
In trees and men good timbers grow." Author: Douglas Malloch quoted by Thomas S. Monson

Prayer For Genealogists

“Lord, help me dig into the past,
And sift the sands of time,
That I might find the roots that made
This family tree mine.

Lord, help me trace the ancient roads,
On which my fathers trod,
And led them through so many lands,
To find our present sod.

Lord, help me find an ancient book,
Or dusty manuscript,
That's safely hidden now away,
In some forgotten crypt,

Lord, let it bridge the gap that haunts
My soul, when I can't find
The missing link between some name
That ends the same as mine.”

I promise tp get back on and bring some things to this wall in a while. I am sorry, life has really gotten busy and I hope you are patient with me.

Genealogy can provide a doorway to the past, although it is often necessary to break through brick walls to get to the truth.

The Practical Side of Genealogy

Below are some of the main practical reasons why people search for their ancestors:
•Validate Family Stories – To determine if family stories about their ancestors are true.
•Famous People – To find out if they are related to someone famous.
•Historical Event – To gain a better understanding of an ancestor’s involvement in a famous historical event.
•Trace Medical Conditions –To assess the risk of getting certain medical conditions that run in families.
•Trace a Family Inheritance –To determine genealogical proof of a family connection for potential heirs.
•Find Birth Parents – To determine the birth parents of an adopted child. Alternatively, to find children given up for adoption.
•Proof of Paternity – To determine the biological father of a child.
•Religious Tenet –To satisfy the tenets of the religion. The most notable example is the Mormon Church (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints).
•Community History – To document a community history by understanding the families that founded and influenced the community.
•Historic Studies – To provide insight into history through the scholarly study of a famous family, such as a royal family.
