Selected by the National Park Service and the Big Bend Natural History Association, Badgerow will spend June 29 to July 11 in the remote wilderness of West Texas performing existing piano works, composing music inspired by the park's landscape, and presenting a public lecture recital that connects audiences with Big Bend's cultural and natural resources.

As part of Elizabethtown College's Summer Creative Arts and Research Program (SCARP), Legal Studies major Anastacia Colon โ€™28 is examining how substance use treatment programs may affect recidivism rates among inmates in Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Working alongside Assistant Professor of Teaching in Criminal Justice Ashley Yinger, whose background includes more than 17 years in the behavioral health field, Colon is comparing the two states' approaches to correctional rehabilitation to better understand how treatment and continuity of care can support successful reentry and reduce reoffending.

"Through this project, I hope to uncover information on how Pennsylvania can improve recidivism rates with the help of previous research literature and data from Virginia, as it has the lowest recidivism rate compared to Pennsylvania and national averages," Colon said. "I also hope to bring awareness to the need for substance use treatment programs in Pennsylvania and how current programming in our correctional facilities can be improved across the state."
