I've been working towards this view for a while. It was everything I wanted for Pixie's first ride- she was relaxed, she didn't mind that I was hanging out on her back while Charlie took her for a walk. When I started adding in inputs from the hackamore, she took it in stride and was calm and curious. Sure, there's lots of ways to start a horse under saddle- but I'm a fan of making it a little boring. Lots of ground work, lots of in hand work, lots of time waiting for her to finish growing. I have no doubt she will progress quickly through this next phase. Yes- our horses work to help people to heal and to find deeper understanding of themselves- but they also learn to be horses, to have jobs that will ensure that no matter what happens in my future they have the best odds of having a great future of their own.
