🎓 Congratulations to Zach, our 2026–2027 Student SOAR Award recipient!

Zach is a student in the Industrial Maintenance Integrated Robotics program, taught by Charlie Phillips, Industrial Maintenance Instructor, and is scheduled to graduate in December 2026.

His peers recognize Zach for his great attitude, leadership skills, and positive influence in the classroom. He has a clear vision for his future and plans to work as an industrial maintenance and automation technician in our region.

Zach’s goal is to specialize in programming and troubleshooting automation systems while sharing his knowledge and helping keep local plants running efficiently.

We are proud to recognize Zach for his hard work, leadership, and commitment to his future career. Congratulations, Zach, on this well-deserved honor! 👏

🎉 Please join us in congratulating TCAT Elizabethton’s SOAR Award nominees: Dave Honeycutt, our Instructor nominee, and Renee Hensley, our Staff nominee!

Dave teaches Heavy Equipment Operator students at our Boones Creek Extension Campus. His work gives students the opportunity to learn through hands-on training, build confidence with the equipment, and develop skills they can carry into their careers. He has also taken the time to introduce younger students to the career paths available through technical education.

As Director of Practical Nursing, Renee helps guide one of the most demanding paths our students undertake. She supports the instructors and students in the program and continues to teach alongside her leadership responsibilities. Her work helps prepare future nurses for the responsibility of caring for people in our communities.

The Statewide Outstanding Achievement Recognition (SOAR) Awards celebrate the students, faculty, and staff who make a difference across Tennessee’s colleges. We are proud that Dave and Renee will represent TCAT Elizabethton. Congratulations to you both, and thank you for the work you do for our students! 👏

Yesterday, TCAT Boones Creek hosted an impactful Apprenticeship Summit focused on dispelling common misconceptions about apprenticeships and highlighting the many opportunities they provide for both employers and individuals.

We were honored to welcome representatives from Business & Industry, Economic Development, Chambers of Commerce, and the First Tennessee Development District for an engaging conversation about how apprenticeships can strengthen our workforce and help meet the needs of our region’s employers.

At approximately 8:40am, TCAT administration received information from the Sullivan County Sherriff's Department of a credible threat made against one of our students by a non-student. Out of an abundance of caution, we made the decision to implement a shelter in place "soft" lockdown at all campuses while law enforcement investigated. We maintained the lockdown until 11:00am and implemented a controlled dismissal of all students and staff at all campuses. At no point was there an active situation or disturbance on any of our campuses. We are on a Monday-Thursday instructional schedule and will resume normal classes on Monday, 9/21 at 7:30am. We appreciate the support and cooperation by the Sullivan County Sherriff's Department, Washington County Sherriff's Department, Johnson City Police Department, Kingsport City Police Department, Northeast State Community College Police, Elizabethton Police Department, and Carter County Sherriff's Department.

TCAT Elizabethton is seeking a qualified Adjunct Barbering Instructor to join our team at the Boones Creek Extension Campus.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced barber who wants to share their skills, industry knowledge, and passion for the profession with the next generation of barbering professionals.

📍 Location: Boones Creek Extension Campus
🕒 Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 3:30 p.m.–9:00 p.m.
⏰ Up to 30 hours per week
💵 Pay: $40 per hour

Minimum qualifications include:
• Current Barber License in good standing
• Current Tennessee Barber Instructor License
• Minimum of three years of recent professional barbering experience
• High school diploma or equivalent

The instructor will provide hands-on and classroom instruction in areas such as haircutting, shaving, beard design, chemical services, sanitation, safety, and preparation for state licensure.

🎓 Opening New Pathways for Our Students!

TCAT Elizabethton was proud to join Northeast State Community College yesterday for the signing of new articulation agreements designed to create even more opportunities for students across our region.

These agreements strengthen the pathway from technical education to an associate degree, allowing students to build on the skills and credentials they earn at TCAT Elizabethton as they continue their education at Northeast State.

The new pathways include:

🔧 Automotive Technology → Automotive AAS
❄️ HVAC → Electromechanical AAS
⚙️ Machine Tool Technology → Machining AAS
💻 Computer Information Systems → Information Technology AAS

We’re looking for an experienced diesel professional who is ready to take their industry knowledge into the classroom and help prepare the next generation of skilled technicians.

🔧 Position Highlights:

Full-time position

Monday–Thursday schedule

Salary range: $56,263–$67,517

-Minimum of 3 years of industry experience

-Provide hands-on instruction in diesel diagnosis, maintenance, repair, overhaul, electrical, hydraulic, and related systems.

-Help students develop the technical and employability skills needed to succeed in the diesel and heavy equipment industry.
