Congratulations to our Fox’s Pizza Den-Elizabeth, Colorado ESD Staff Star of The Week, Laurie Stout! Laurie works as the Elizabeth High School Attendance Secretary and is the *FIRST* recipient to receive the award for *excellent customer service*, which will be our theme for the rest of the calendar year.

Laurie was actually nominated more than once 😁

One of the nominations for Laurie said, "Laurie is an amazing person who is always willing to help, no matter what is needed. She is kind, patient, welcoming, and incredibly helpful when dealing with both students and parents. She makes people feel heard and supported, and she consistently goes the extra mile to find answers, solve problems, and help families navigate whatever they may need."

Laurie received a free entree at Fox's Pizza Den. Upon receiving the award, Laurie said it feels very nice to get the recognition and says when it comes to customer service, she wants everyone to feel welcomed, even the students who come into school late! She says she realizes she is the first face that parents, students and staff see each day and wants everyone to feel welcomed at EHS.

Congratulations Laurie!

The countdown is officially on! ⏳🎬

In just under two weeks, Elizabeth School District is hosting a free community screening of Screenagers: Generation AI, and we’re giving you a sneak peek with a few exclusive screenshots from the film below!

Artificial intelligence has rapidly entered our kids' lives—from homework help and creative brainstorming to chatbots acting as friends and emotional support. Alongside these tools come real challenges, including academic integrity concerns and deepfake harassment.

This film tackles these realities head-on through the eyes of teens, educators, and experts, offering practical ways to navigate this new digital frontier together.

Keeping our schools, students, and staff and community safe takes continuous learning, planning, and teamwork.

Today, during our professional development day, Elizabeth School District staff joined forces with local first responders, neighboring school districts and community partners at Elizabeth High School for a full-day Operationalizing School Safety Training.

Led by Ian Lopez, Director of Safety & Security for Cherry Creek School District, and presented by Circle of Trust Training Systems, this hands-on workshop went beyond theory. Our teams spent the day working through incident command strategies, multi-agency communication, and live tabletop crisis scenarios designed to keep everyone coordinated and prepared. Part of those strategies included exercises that placed the teams in challenging hypothetical but realistic scenarios, stimulating critical thinking, handling stress and team building.

A huge thank you to CRG for sponsoring this invaluable event, and to Convergint Technologies for providing Catalina’s lunch for all our attendees! We are deeply grateful for our staff, local first responders, and community partners who dedicate their time to making sure our schools remain a safe place to learn and grow.

What a special night it was for the EHS Homecoming game vs. Strasburg. With a solid 37-14 victory, our mighty Cardinals improve to 6-0. Next up, we will take on Denver West Saturday @ 11:00 a.m.

Raise 'em up!

This week EHS Auto Shop students learned how to safely operate the vehicle lifts, mastering proper safety protocols and the full pre-lift checklist. They also researched vehicle weights and worked in teams to carefully complete every step of the process.

This hands-on experience is the essential first step before they begin working on engines.

We’re excited that this is the first year our Auto Shop students can use our brand-new facility! It opened this school year thanks to generous local donors and the shop gives students access to great tools, state-of-the-art equipment, and the perfect space to safely learn all about auto repair.

At last night's ESD Board Meeting, we had a special recognition of two of our employees.

EHS Assistant Principal and Athletic Director John Everhart was recognized for his planning and organization of EHS Homecoming Week. Each year, the planning and ex*****on of that event is a monumental task with every logistical challenge you can imagine. From coordinating meetings with schools and ESD departments to parade planning and mapping, to working with student clubs and athletics, John led the coordination effort and the end result was another fantastic weeklong celebration of all things Elizabeth School District.

Singing Hills Paraprofessional Madi Bahr was recognized for her quick thinking and actions last month in helping a 4th grade student who was choking in the cafeteria during lunch. Madi says on the day it happened, she was on lunch duty and happened to walk past the student right before the incident, she suddenly saw commotion and recognized that the student was signaling for help. Without thinking twice, Madi jumped into action and gave her two or three abdominal thrusts, freeing the student's airway. Paramedics checked on the student and later, the student was happily back in class. Madi says she knew what to do because she went through training with her kids' club and learned CPR.

"I never thought I could do it, but when it happened, adrenaline kicked in and I went for it," she says. "It feels really rewarding to be recognized for this. It feels great knowing that I did the right thing."

Made was also given a free entree at Fox’s Pizza Den-Elizabeth, Colorado as part of the recognition!

10:41 update - Fire crews have cleared the scene at Singing Hills Elementary and normal operations have resumed. During the investigation of the smoke smell as students and staff were evacuated, crews located a potential cause of the smoke as a belt that was slipping. Fire crews were not able to confirm the slipping belt as a definite cause of the smoke, however the ESD facilities team replaced that belt in the event that it was faulty. Thank you for your patience during this incident. ESD Communications

10:02 update - Singing Hills Elementary students are now being allowed back into the building. They are going to be kept away from the gym and cafeteria as crews continue to investigate the source of the smoke smell, which has since dissipated. Please continue to keep clear of the campus as crews are on scene.

9:45 a.m. update - A note to SHE parents and campus visitors: Please keep clear of Singing Hills Elementary, including the pick-up and drop-off area, as to allow easy access for emergency crews to conduct their investigation as they look for the source of the smoke smell. Thank you.

Attention ESD Community: Singing Hills Elementary is currently evacuated due to a smoke smell that was reported on the gym side of the building. Fire crews are on scene investigating and trying to locate the source of the smoke smell. All students are safe and accounted for. We will provide more updates as we receive them.
