🇨🇴 This month, Colombia feels a little closer to Northside.

For some of our international teachers from Colombia, the recent earthquake isn’t just something they saw on the news, it has impacted people and places they call home.

As they share their culture and real stories with our students, our Bears are learning about Colombia through a much more personal lens. Our Kindergarten students are exploring the country, its culture, and the ways life in Colombia is both similar to and different from life here in the United States.

And through it all, they’re learning an even bigger lesson: what it means to care about people beyond our own community.

Inspired by this learning, our Kindergarten team is leading Coins for Colombia!!!! ALL grade levels are invited to participate! 🇨🇴🪙❤️

Because sometimes the biggest lessons aren’t found in a textbook.

Win of the Week 🎓 ECP Early College makes district history

Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Early College has reached a remarkable milestone: 100% proficiency on all state exams, making it the first school in Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools history to reach that mark.

The school also earned a 100 school performance grade and exceeded expected growth.

That achievement is part of a much larger story of progress across ECPPS.

Since 2022, districtwide proficiency has increased from 34.1% to 55.2%, while the four-year graduation rate has climbed from 65.4% to 82.9%. Math proficiency has increased by 25.2 percentage points, and every school in the district has increased its achievement score.

The gains are reflected in school performance, too. Eleven schools moved up at least one letter grade, including five that moved up two grades. At the same time, the district achievement gap narrowed by 6.5 percentage points.

ECPPS is also creating more opportunities for students beyond the classroom. Dual-enrollment participation through College of the Albemarle has grown 79% since fall 2022, from 130 to 233 students, giving more students access to college credit and career credentials before graduation.

The milestone at Early College is worth celebrating on its own. It is even more meaningful as part of a districtwide effort to improve outcomes and expand opportunities for students.

As Superintendent Dr. Keith Parker said, “These numbers represent more than improved scores. They represent students who are learning, teachers who are making a difference, and schools that are continuing to move forward.”

Congratulations to the students, educators, school leaders, families, and community partners across ECPPS on this year of progress.
