Monday night was a night full of randori. Students practiced what they have been drilling for the past few classes, which were takedowns and simple submissions. Everyone did very well with their techniques and had a blast!

I have to give a special shoutout to Charlie, who volunteered to stay over and help sweep and mop the mats after class. They definitely needed it after all the rolling we did.

Yesterday was a great Defensive Tactics and Controlled Restraints class at the dojo. Defensive Tactics and Subject Control is an OPOTA course designed primarily for law enforcement and peace officers to help subdue individuals on increasing levels of aggression.

Today's class focused on standing grappling, take downs and ground positioning, along with transitioning the subject from lying on their back to prone positioning.

Kata training on Monday, followed by application on Wednesday.

Kata contains so many ideas and concepts, it just takes a little bit of effort to find the techniques contained within.

While Karate kata on the surface is all striking, it is the subtleties of the stance work and movements that can create so many techniques. Wednesday night students discovered throws and joint locks out of kata.

Since February, the dojo has seen quite a change from being a mechanic garage to a fully operational martial arts school. This could not have been possible without the support of all the students who attend each week who continue to grow in the martial arts.

Here at Empty Hands Martial Arts, we are a family of martial artists. There are no bad attitudes or egos, just a group of people who love martial arts and want to learn and train.

Our training focuses on self-defense for all ages, which includes striking, throwing, clinching, takedowns, and grappling. We are a Karate system, but many people do not realize that Karate involves so much more than just striking and kata.

Come in and join the martial arts family at Empty Hands Martial Arts; kids through adults can attend classes, ages 4 and up. Classes are every Monday and Wednesday, starting at 6:30.

The dojo is ready with the new mats installed and ready to rock!

Come check us out at 309 N. Greenlawn Ave. in Elida.

We practice all aspects of fighting, including striking, throwing, takedowns and grappling from a mindset of self-defense and practicality.

Classes are every Monday and Wednesday.

One more promotion in the books! Last night, Reagan was promoted to High White Belt. She has been working hard improving her stances and her kicks. She has some of the best stances of the little kids class. Well done, Reagan; you're awesome!

The adult class and older youth class worked on wrist lock variations and principles. It was a lot of fun, and the students now have a deeper understanding of wrist lock mechanics and applications.
