Spirit Street Kids won’t be hosting our own Summer Day Camp this year….but don’t worry! We are joining forces with Side Street Studio Arts in Downtown Elgin.

Spirit Street “Social Emotional Learning” Skills & Lessons will be infused into the Side Street Kids Summer Camp!

I am proud to be the new Arts Education Coordinator at Side Street. We have 7 weeks of summer programming at Side Street! Arts, games, field trips & more!

[💕Thank you for your interest in these materials!!! I have added links to them in my bio]. Think about a 7th grade student who is bright and social and funny and has many gifts. But he is dyslexic, he has a language impairment, ADHD. And every single day, there are pages and pages of symbols put in front of him that he doesn’t understand. It’s easier for many students to “act out” than to let others see how much they are struggling or even to admit it to themselves. And if they don’t have the skills to meet an expectation and/or the right environment to support them to grow then they not only won’t, but they CAN’T. It is our job to help figure out where they are so that they can work hard. Because they want to. On Friday….

Our theme was: WALK THE RED CARPET…✨as your best self!

Our affirmations were:
🗣️ “I can shine bright for all to see!”
🗣️ “I am who I am, and that is MAGNIFICENT!”
🗣️ “I am perfect, just the way I am.”

We began our day with walking the red carpet and acting like fans & paparazzi for one another! 📸 It was fun to cheer on our friends and celebrate such a unique and inspiring week!

Everyone dressed up in whatever made them feel like their best self! We had artists, fashionistas, gamers, gymnasts….unicorn fairies…athletes…and more! 💖

Miss Rachael read a story called “That uh-oh feeling… A Story About Touch” with the students; which prepared them for their lesson on safe touch, unsafe touch and unwanted touch with Miss Alissa.

Students were already SO prepared for this conversation and content; it was amazing! Way to go parents and families. Miss Alissa provides training for students and teens on Body Safety. This is an empowering experience for youth.

After a pizza lunch, Miss Addy & Miss Ann gave students a volleyball demo! 🏐

We enjoyed lots of games, dance and free play time on Friday before we had the “1 Minute Talent Show” 🎤 🎳🏈💃🏼🕺🏼

We encouraged students to get creative and “SHOW OFF” something cool to their peers. We heard jokes, saw card collections, …beat-boxing…dancing, gymnastics acts and more! Almost every student participated in the show which makes us so proud. We encouraged them to stand out in their strengths and shine! Everyone has something to offer. 🪩

To end the day, we had a NEON GLOW DANCE PARTY! Our favorite way to end the week is dancing and having a party! 🎉 Kids had fun with temporary tattoos and glow-sticks.
