Update ⛈️

Good afternoon parents,

We have been closely watching the activity in the Gulf, as I’m sure many of you have. I will say this storm has been a little unpredictable as weather can be.

We have made the decision to close school on Friday, October 9th. I wanted to get this to you as far in advance as I could because I know many of you have to make plans. We do not like to do this, because it affects so many, but we have to take all factors into consideration and of course, the most important, the safety of our students and our staff. Along with school being canceled, all afterschool and extracurricular activities scheduled for Friday and Saturday are also canceled.

Also, just as a reminder, students are on fall break through October 14th. They are expected to return to school on Thursday, October 15th. If for some reason those plans change, you will hear directly from us.

We have been through these before and we will get through this one as well. Please stay up to date with the forecasts as we go into Friday and we will be back in touch if updates are needed.

Today our TSA and FCCLA officers traveled to Mobile to JLDC where they got the opportunity to hear from state superintendent, Dr. Eric G. Mackey, keynote speaker, Shaun Derik, and several other amazing guest speakers! They had a blast learning about CTSO leadership and getting to connect with students from other schools!

🍎✨ We are so proud of these Elberta Middle School educators!

Today, several of our teachers were recognized by County Supervisors. They were presented with plaques for their exceptional work and commitment to education. From developing pacing guides and serving on literacy committees to leading professional development, evaluating textbook adoptions, and so much more, our teachers continue to go above and beyond to make a difference for our students and our school community.

Thank you to these deserving educators! Your hard work, leadership, and dedication do not go unnoticed. We are grateful for all that you do! 💙📚👏
