Today I’m going to show you guys how to do a super simple activity with things you can just find around your yard! You can use anything you want really but we used:
✨
-sticks
-rocks
-leaves/stems
-pinecones
-mud

You can show by doing and teach them simple skills like how the mud acts as a bonding agent, how to put mud, rock, mud. Show them how vines are flexible and can be used to tie to wrap around sticks. And then just let them explore and create! 🌱

Prompt: paint rocks

Then no instruction. See how each child interpreted differently. Some use the rocks on their painting. Some use the paint we made using crushed rocks to create a painting of rocks. Some paint the actual rocks on top of their canvas.

In today’s society, a lot of time we are forced to do the same prompt in the same exact way as everyone else. But this is where creativity and imagination leave us. We want children to explore, problem solve and think for themselves. Because not every outcome has to have the same solution. We can come to the same conclusion through different methods. We are different in the way we look, speak, and think.

Learning the art of Story telling with our Story telling rocks!

Today, our little storytellers used picture rocks to create their very own stories. As they chose their rocks, created characters, and decided what would happen next, they were doing so much more than playing!

Storytelling helps develop the preschool brain by strengthening language and vocabulary, memory, sequencing, imagination, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills. It also gives children the confidence to express their own ideas and creativity.

What started as a simple rock race quickly turned into a science experiment! 🪨💦

Our investigation began with the question, “Which size and shape of rock will go down the fastest?”
Then our curiosity grew: Can water push the small pebbles down? What about the big rocks? 🤔

One question led to another as we explored, tested our ideas, and made new discoveries. 🔬✨ Stay tuned to see what we discovered!

At nature school, we don't just explore the outdoors—we also learn the same foundational skills children typically learn before kindergarten, just in a hands-on, play-based way.

Today we practiced shapes by drawing them on the table and finding rocks that fit inside each one. As the children explored, their natural curiosity took over. They asked about the names of the shapes, compared sizes, counted rocks, and proudly matched them to the correct shape.

Learning doesn't have to happen at a desk. Some of the best lessons happen outside, where curiosity leads the way and play becomes meaningful learning. 🌿🪨💚

This week for Build Wednesday, our little trailblazers became architects! Using rocks and playdough, children designed and built their own unique structures while exploring balance, stability, and creativity.

Open-ended building encourages problem-solving, fine motor development, perseverance, and imaginative thinking—all through hands-on play in nature.

At Tiny Trailblazers, we believe the best learning happens when children create, experiment, and let their imaginations lead the way.
