Our Storytelling Apron Workshop was a great success. Here you can see the lovely creations "almost" complete - just a few more stitches and the silk skirts will be sewn in place. Participants wet and needle felted the tops, dyed their silk skirts and then put it all together! Stay tuned for future workshop announcements!

It's Wild Rose Hip season here in northern California. These beautiful bright fruits are decorating the green leafy roses where blossoms once were. Did you know that one cup has as much Vitamin C as 40 oranges...Wow! Because of the high vitamin C content they are an excellent immune system booster, and are often used as a supplement to prevent or treat a cold.. Rose hips also have a high vitamin A content. Vitamin A is commonly referred to as the "skin vitamin" which regenerates skin cells, healing wounds and scars. It also helps to keep the skin elastic and nourished.
Rose hip tea is wonderful as well. Here is a link to an easy recipe from Green Renaissance : Click Here for the Rose Hip Tea Video

My good friend who is an Herbalist gave me some wild harvested elderberries that were dried. Elderberry is used for its antioxidant activity, to lower cholesterol, to improve vision, to boost the immune system, to improve heart health and for coughs, colds, flu, bacterial and viral infections. Bioflavonoids and other proteins in the juice destroy the ability of cold and flu viruses to infect a cell. Elderberries are tasty and power packed with nutrients and immune support.
Recipe for Elderberry, Wild Rose Hip, and Chia Preserves ~By Kerry Ingram

Just enough unsweetened apple cider to cover the rose hips and elderberries.
2-3 tablespoons of chia seeds

Puree berries with the cider & vanilla seeds

Theo, a former Rose Kindergartener (rosehip) came back to Acorn Farm for a little help with his 7th grade sewing project. Theo spent 3 hours here with me sewing away and needle felting the eyes and toes. I barely helped, just a little advice on putting it together - he did this himself! I was so pleased with his skill and hard work - didn't it turn out great! Thanks, Theo.

Even with this APA suggested ban on handheld devices for infants, I don't' hunk it goes far enough. One hour in the daily life of a young child in one hour less of movement and interaction with other humans and the natural world. Healthy young children are awake for about 10 hours a day - that means that if they spend one hour per day on handhelds, then they are loosing 36 waking days per year sitting and looking at a screen. And that doesn't include all the screen time that isn't with handhelds, like tv, videos and movies.
10 Reasons Why Handheld Devices Should Be Banned for Children Under the Age of 12
s a pediatric occupational therapist, I'm calling on parents, teachers and governments to ban the use of all handheld devices for children under the age of 12 years....
