There is still time to register for tomorrow's Waldorf parent ed course with Willow Summer! Join us Wednesday, June 3rd from 7-8:30pm for Health Is On the Way: The Waldorf Approach to Difficult Parenting Moments in Early Childhood-5th Grade.

As parents, we can all have moments when we find ourselves in a battle of wills with our child. Or, perhaps, we get frustrated when our child appears extremely sensitive to what we would consider a normal occurrence. In these moments, we may ask ourselves, "How did I get HERE?" and "What do I DO NOW?" Steiner described polar states of being that may deeply influence behavior. Without understanding the underlying causes of these imbalances and how to help, it can often feel like we are on a downward spiral. We will explore the theory and practical techniques to help find our center again in unbalanced moments. This session will focus on sharing our experiences and on communication techniques: unpacking habitual communication patterns that lead to disconnection and frustration as well as practicing new ways of seeing, listening, and speaking to bring healing to our children.

Join us this evening from 7-8:30pm for our next online Waldorf parent ed course, Children & Nature: The Waldorf Approach to Getting Outside, with Willow Summer.

Rudolf Steiner discovered that simply living in cities and being around electricity can deplete our life forces. Yet his prescription was not to avoid modern life, but to find ways to strengthen and protect ourselves so that we are able to stay healthy in the midst of the technologies of our times. How, how often, and how long we interact with nature matters. Will it feed our life forces? Experience how time in nature can bring health and rejuvenation to your entire family. We will learn how silence, wonder, breathing/rhythm, movement, and activities that are developmentally appropriate for your child can heal and strengthen us to face our times with strength and initiative.

Join us this Wednesday, May 20th for the next offering in our Waldorf parent support class series - Discover the World: Hands-On Science with Warren Lee Cohen.

Children are eager to explore and understand the world around them. They naturally want to use all of their senses to learn, to work, and eventually to grow into adults capable of imparting meaning and purpose into their lives. This is their deepest yearning. In Waldorf education, we place a high value on learning through experience—in doing, observing, reflecting, questioning, and finally reaching to understanding. Science classes are rigorous, engaging, hands-on experiences where observation and questioning are paramount.

As a parent of a child in a Waldorf school, it may be difficult to appreciate the way we are guiding your child into knowing the world. Warren will describe the value of this way of learning—and why it is important—in a world where your child may be overwhelmed with facts and information but have little of their own direct, personal experience.

You will need colored pencils and paper as supplies for this class.

Warren Lee Cohen just graduated with his second eighth grade class. Warren holds a B.A. in Physics and an M.Ed. He has served Waldorf education in a variety of roles: as a class teacher, an adult educator, and as director of Waldorf Teacher Education at RSCC, where he also founded the Summer Festival of Arts and Education. His latest book is Celebrate Passover, preceded by The Waldorf Book of Blessings, Raising the Soul, and Baking Bread with Children.

There is still time to register for this evening's Waldorf parent support class, Rhythm, Routines, and Rituals with Andrea Vander Pluym!

The pace and unpredictability of modern life often impede steady rhythms, leaving children feeling overstimulated, unsettled, and without the grounding sense that the world is safe and dependable. Discover how rhythm, routine, and daily and seasonal rituals can be integrated, providing a deep sense of security and ease in children’s lives. Together, we will explore how to shape your days with gentle predictability so that you and your children may relax into the flow and activities of family life. We will learn how this supports emotional balance, trust, resilience, and healthy physical and mental development.

Andrea, founding board president of Berkeley Rose Waldorf School, taught as a grades teacher for over 15 years. She has authored three self-help books for young adults, including the bestseller, Respect, which has been translated into numerous languages.

At the Roots of the Waldorf Tree: Online Classes To Support Waldorf Parents (April & May 2026 Courses) 04/22/2026

Our Waldorf parent support classes continue starting tonight! Join BACWTT Program Director, Ken Smith, for Holistic Parenting: Caring for the Head, Heart, and Hand. We have adjusted the timing for this series to 7-8:30pm.

"In Waldorf education, we are always working to educate the whole child. To understand and engage the child in a holistic and balanced way, we provide activities that support their threefold nature. Each day, we try to ensure that they are nourished in their head (thinking), in their heart (feeling), and in their hands (will). Understanding this all-round approach will help you support your child in finding a balance between these three inner aspects as they grow and develop."
